Does it make sense to cut off all the leaves on the tomatoes, leaving only the fruits?

– Apparently, your neighbor is struggling with late blight and its consequence – darkened leaves on tomatoes. It makes no sense to do this, because fruits without leaves will stop developing, they can also become infected and turn black, and you will be left without a crop. It is better to cut the largest tomatoes and take them to the house to ripen.

In what conditions is it better to store vegetables at home if there is no way to leave them in the beds?

– You should not overexpose the zucchini in the beds, because they grow to a meter in size, become rough and tasteless. White-fruited zucchini is stored on average in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks, but zucchini are better suited for long-term storage, in a cool place they stand for 2-3 months. The refrigerator, of course, will not be enough for the entire crop of zucchini, but you can store vegetables at home, in the pantry, on an insulated loggia or even under the bed.

Yablona is five years old, and during all this time it has never even bloomed. Will it bear fruit?

– There are no simple answers to difficult questions. This is the same as asking: “Doctor, will I have children?” You need to know exactly the variety of the apple tree on which it is grafted. Old varieties can bear fruit in the 10-12th year, modern ones give a harvest already in the 3-4th year. If the branches grow vertically, the apple tree does not bloom, it does not have fruit buds, and in this case, the branches must be transferred to a horizontal position. Apple trees lay a fruit bud a year before flowering, that is, already now. When your tree lacks sun, moisture, fertilizer, it will not even think to bear fruit. If not cared for, apple trees will produce irregular crops, for example, once every two years.

How to properly prepare rose bushes for wintering?

– For this it would be good to know what kind of roses you have. Dutch, Polish, Argentinean, for example, do not take root well in our conditions. Most often, our summer residents take care of the roses incorrectly – they will wrap them up in a thick film and leave for the city until May, and the stems will simply rot without air. I don’t cover my roses in any way. By the way, if possible, watch the rose garden in Moscow near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, there is an excellent gardener, he does not cover the flowers with anything for the winter, in the fall he only cuts the stems a little and sprinkles the roots with sawdust. He just has the right winter-hardy domestic varieties that can withstand our climate. Another option is to walk around your summer cottage village, see what kind of roses the neighbors have, ask. And if your neighbor has a wonderful rose garden that has been blooming for 15 years without any problems, ask him to share the cuttings. The person will be pleased, and the flower will take root perfectly with you, and it will be a proven plant, and not a cat in a poke, which you can buy in the first market you come across, spending still a lot of money.

What can you safely buy from grandmothers on the sidelines?

– Buy everything calmly, except for cans of mushrooms, if you don’t want to play Russian roulette. On the 5-10th time you can run into botulism, and this disease is fatal in 20% of cases.
