This is prohibited by church canons. It is not recommended to place the faces of saints in a bookcase next to books, souvenirs, near mirrors and on a desk.
Above the entrance should be placed not an icon, but a cross or a horseshoe.
Home iconostasis: how to arrange the icons correctly
When creating an iconostasis, remember the hierarchy. The main icons are images of the Mother of God and Christ. According to many people, they should be positioned higher than others. This is not true. They can be placed on the same level with the others, but not below them. According to the canons of the church, this is indecent.
On the sides or below are the nominal images of saints who are venerated in the family. You can also put on wedding icons.
The iconostasis looks beautiful if the icons are similar in style and executed in the same icon painting workshop. The iconostasis may contain nominal icons or images of saints. For example, the image of Nicholas the Wonderworker (Nicholas the Pleasant). Among the icons with the faces of the great martyrs, images of St. George the Victorious and the healer Panteleimon are more often chosen.
Remember that it doesn’t really matter how many icons are in the house. You can have one that sunk into your soul when you acquire it. She should be revered, serve as a talisman against troubles that fall on the path of life. But a thoughtless set of icons can negatively affect the spiritual state of the family.
A correctly chosen place will help to perform daily prayers and will not distract from communication with God and the saints.
