How to properly apply sunscreen

Any care product has its own rules of application, and sunscreen is no exception. Mistakes can lead to unpleasant consequences in the form of burns – immediately after the beach, as well as wrinkles and age spots – in the long term. Remember the correct algorithm.

What to apply

Not all SPF products are the same. When choosing a sunscreen, consider several parameters.
  • Phototype. This test will help determine it. In any case, we do not recommend going to the beach in the first days of your vacation with protection less than SPF 30, and for white-skinned people less than SPF 50. This way you will avoid burns, and the tan will be more resistant.

  • Skin type and problems. When choosing a sunscreen for the face, pay attention to the texture (cream, spray, gel-cream, fluid) and the additional characteristics of the product: for moisturizing, matting, combating age spots or imperfections.

  • Water resistance of the product. This characteristic is important for a beach holiday. Water, like a magnifying glass, enhances the effect of sunlight, and therefore increases the risk of burns. So the ability to protect yourself from ultraviolet radiation while in the water is a great option.

It is important that the product includes broad-spectrum filters, that is, it protects against types A and B rays. Look for the UVA designation in a circle on the bottle – it confirms the filtering of type A rays.

  • Sunscreen Mattifying Facial Emulsion Creme Solaire Dry Touch, SPF 30, Vichy protects the skin, reduces greasy shine, which tends to intensify in the sun. Waterproof.

  • Anthelios Sunscreen Moisturizer, SPF 50+, La Roche-Posay Addressed to all skin types, including sensitive. In addition, it can be applied to the skin around the eyes.

When to apply

Apply sunscreen at home, 20-30 minutes before going outside. Otherwise, by the time you get to the beach, you will just have time to get burned. Truly reliable sunscreens contain two types of protective filters:

  • physical filters (reflect UV rays, like a mirror);

  • chemical (neutralize them).

Where to apply

Sunscreen is applied to clean skin over the entire surface of the body, including the hands and feet, as well as the places covered by the swimsuit. The most correct thing is to completely undress, treat the body without missing a single centimeter of skin, and only then put on a bathing suit.

Pay special attention to large moles, apply protection on them separately. For these purposes, the stick format is very convenient. For example, stick for sensitive areas Anthelios SPF 50+ / 26 PPD, La Roche-Posay.

How many

According to the standard, the amount of sunscreen is 2 mg per square centimeter of skin, or 2-3 heaping tablespoons for the whole body. If you’re too lazy to count, just don’t be greedy. Yes, the expense is uneconomical, but safety is more important.

There are quite budget and very worthy representatives of the genre. For example, sunscreen “Extra Protection”, SPF 30, Sublime Sun, L’Oréal Paris protects from the sun with filters and antioxidants, moisturizes the skin.

How often

Physical filters can be erased or washed off, while chemical ones are gradually destroyed by ultraviolet radiation. So renew your sun protection every two hours, or every time you swim, dry off with a towel, or sweat a lot.

Children’s sunscreen dry spray antisand “Expert Protection”, SPF 50, Garnier resistant to water. It has a light texture, gives a feeling of comfort. The skin after application is non-greasy, sand does not stick to it.
