PSYchology

They say you need to change jobs every 5 years. This is debatable, but what is hard to argue with is the need to be able to pass important interviews and make a good impression on a potential employer.

The interview is a key moment in hiring. No summary and recommendations will replace live communication with a candidate for a vacant position. The boss, the employer, the director of the company — he is also a person, and no matter what your initial conditions are, he will still «vote with his heart.» Therefore, it is important to make sure that a blurry impression does not prevent you from finding your dream job.

First of all, put yourself in the place of the employer. What kind of employee is he looking for? What does he want to see in your appearance? What does he want to hear from you? What criteria and stereotypes does he follow? What, finally, the impression will be the most convincing for him?

Despite the fact that employers are different people, these answers will have a lot in common. The employer wants to feel comfortable in his responsible place, to receive high returns from real specialists, he wants to feel secure, live calmly, and trust the people who are close to him. The entire palette of requests to a future employee can be reduced to 2 main ones:

  1. Good specialist. Those. a competent, competent, knowledgeable expert, the return on which will be greater than the investment.
  2. Suitable person. Those. adequate, pleasant, sociable, open, honest, friendly, reliable.

How do I prepare for an interview?

Appearance

Everyone knows the proverb: «Meet by clothes, see off by mind.» Let the first impression of you be favorable. Naturally, the clothes should correspond to the position for which you are applying. Therefore: think over the clothes in which you will go to a meeting with the employer. Perhaps a strict business suit is not appropriate for every position, but neat business-style clothes, clean hair and nails, and polished shoes will certainly make the necessary positive impression on your interlocutor.

Remember posture.

Wording

The wording of what services you can offer or what tasks you can solve should be consonant with the needs of the employer. “You want this and that – I can solve these problems!” Let the employer know that you can resolve their issues. In any case, prepare your formulations, it is better to write them down in writing.

Repetition

Play out (with a friend) the scripted job application. Rehearse the interview. Answer the classic interview questions:

1. What is important for you in a new job?

2. Which team suits you best?

3. Tell me about your ideal place to work.

4. Describe the best leader/subordinate for you.

A list of frequently asked interview questions can be found in many articles on the Internet.

Remove fears, tune in to luck

Before the interview (a day before, a week before), imagine the event as having already happened. Imagine how you feel at the same time, soar with happiness, the employer shakes your hand and congratulates you on your new position. Imagine how you look, what suit you are wearing, how you feel. Draw a picture! Keep this picture, image, text in your head.

Fears and worries will interfere with you, it is better to replace them with confidence in success. How? First, reduce the significance of the result! Don’t take the interview as important. There is such a paradox: the more important an event seems to us, the more we worry and the more mistakes we make during this event, because tension and excitement scatter our attention and strength. If you want to pass the interview as «excellent» — reduce its importance for yourself. Imagine that this is just “interview training”, and you, in general, do not care how it all ends. If everything goes great, it will be good. If everything does not work out very well, it will also be good, because in the process of training you will gain new experience, which you then use for self-improvement. In any case, you will stay alive. Yes? Well, if so, then there is no reason to worry. Relax.

Calmly consider the possibility that you did not pass the interview. So what? Everything happens in life. Come home, drink a cup of fragrant tea with your favorite cookies. Not scary? Not scary! Get it next time!

Directly in front of the door of the interview room, try to sit quietly and relax. Watch your breathing: breathing is even and calm, breathing easily. If your imagination runs wild, use it to your advantage: imagine the person conducting the interview in a non-standard way — for example, in a cap and with a red clown nose, or with rabbit ears. It will become funny, you will smile and calm down.

Take care of contact

Understand that the interview with you will be conducted not by the company, but by a certain person. Try to establish contact with him: a smile, an expression of location will help you. Try to talk about things that are meaningful to him (just look around the space that surrounds him, pay attention to his shoes from the new collection, etc.). Try to find an approach to his inner child.

Perhaps these recommendations will be useful not only at the interview.

Good luck to you!
