How to prepare and take onion tincture

Onion (Allium cepa) has been used in folk medicine since ancient times. The culture is valued for its rich vitamin and mineral composition and contains a large amount of flavonoids – natural antioxidants. Onion tincture is used as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic and antipyretic agent. Unlike Western manufacturers, Russian enterprises are not engaged in the industrial production of bioadditives, but it can be easily made at home.

Healing properties of onions

In ancient Greece, rheumatic diseases and gout were treated with onions, and Avicenna recommended it in his writings for sore throats and a weak stomach. In the XNUMXth century, the plant was used as a prophylactic against typhoid fever and cholera.

In the late 1960s, Dr. N. N. Gupta of the Lucknow Medical College and a group of British scientists conducted several studies and proved that onions are useful for heart disease, as they thin the blood and reduce the risk of blood clots.

Regular onions contain many useful components, including:

  • quercetin – an antioxidant, helps with diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases;
  • thiosulfinate – antiseptic, has an antimicrobial effect;
  • sulfur is a natural anticoagulant;
  • catechol – protects cells from free radicals;
  • thiocyanate – suppresses pathogenic microflora;
  • calcium, iron, phosphorus and vitamins.

Onion tincture relieves pain and swelling in rheumatoid arthritis, fights bronchitis and asthma, strengthens the immune system. WHO recommends the use of a plant extract for the treatment of coughs, colds, and the prevention of atherosclerosis. Like garlic, onions lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Sulfides in its composition protect against the development of malignant tumors, especially in the stomach and large intestine.

Onion alleviates the course of diabetes, as its active ingredients block the processes of insulin breakdown by the liver and stimulate its production by the pancreas, which helps maintain normal blood sugar levels. The active components of the plant help prevent stomach ulcers, as they inhibit the growth of the microorganism Helicobacter pylori. Due to its antiseptic properties, onions can be used to combat helminthic infestations.

How to make onion tincture with vodka

Ethanol dissolves well the active ingredients from plant materials, so the therapeutic effect of the tincture lasts for a long time. For 0,5 liters of vodka, 4 medium-sized onions will be required. If there is no hand-grown onion, purchase it from trusted farmers practicing organic farming. Sometimes the list of ingredients includes rose hips (30 g) and lemon zest (10 g).

Tincture Recipe

  1. Peel the onion from the husk and chop finely.
  2. Place it at the bottom of the glass jar.
  3. Fill with vodka.
  4. Close the container tightly with a lid and place in a dark place for 14 days.

The finished tincture must be filtered, poured into a bottle and stored in a cool place. The tool does not lose its properties during the year.
