Marsh cinquefoil (lat. Cómarum palustrе) is a perennial herbaceous plant common in northern Eurasia and growing in humid places: on the banks of reservoirs and in wetlands. The so-called “Russian ginseng” has been widely used as an aid in the treatment of chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system and is part of pharmaceutical ointments to relieve pain during inflammatory processes in the joints. No less effective in tincture of cinquefoil on vodka, which is used to treat and prevent a whole range of diseases.
Useful properties of the plant
Most of the scientific research on the healing properties of cinquefoil was carried out in the second half of the 1990s, when interest in herbal remedies increased due to their low toxicity compared to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In folk medicine, the whole plant is used, but the rhizomes of the cinquefoil have the highest efficiency.
The chemical composition of the plant is diverse, the most valuable is the polyphenol complex, which includes:
- essential oils;
- gum;
- organic and phenolcarboxylic acids;
- saponins;
- tannins;
- tannins.
Tannins in cinquefoil contain the most – up to ten percent. These are derivatives of natural antioxidants proanthocyanidins, capable of breaking down into components and penetrating into cell walls, protecting them from free radicals. Substances have a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system, restore the cellular structure, resist the development of atherosclerosis and increase immunity. The polyphenol complex has a pronounced analgesic, hemostatic and anti-inflammatory effect.
Sabelnik is used in the treatment of a number of diseases, including:
- gastralgia;
- bronchitis;
- tuberculosis;
- rheumatoid arthritis;
- osteoarthritis;
- spondylarthrosis and osteochondrosis of the spine.
Russian scientists in 2017 conducted a study of the effectiveness of the plant in the treatment of diabetes. The extract from the cinquefoil showed good results during the experiment with rodents – in rats insulin decreased and glucose levels increased, which made it possible for scientists to consider C. palustre as a dietary supplement in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Tincture of cinquefoil on vodka at home
In the treatment of diseases of bones and joints, alcohol tinctures from the root of the plant are most often used. In this case, the cinquefoil is harvested in late September – early October in marshy places. At this time, the length of the roots reaches a length of up to one meter. Procurers do not need tools – the roots are easily pulled out of the ground. Raw materials are cleaned of moss, grass and dirt, washed and ground in a large meat grinder or finely chopped with a knife.
It is not necessary to prepare a cinquefoil on your own – dried roots are sold in a pharmacy and on specialized portals on the Internet.
Further procedure:
- Fill a glass jar with a volume of 0,7 liters with crushed raw materials by a third.
- Pour the roots with 0,5 l of vodka
- Put in a dark place for at least 3 weeks.
- Shake the jar every day.
The finished tincture acquires a rich ruby hue, the roots swell and can take up to half the capacity. The liquid must be filtered, poured into a separate bowl and then stored in a cool place.
Application of tincture of cinquefoil
The tincture is suitable for both internal and external use. The usual regimen for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system is one tablespoon 3 times a day before meals with a small amount of water.
It is necessary to start drinking cinquefoil tincture for the joints at the very beginning of the exacerbation of the disease – in this case, the chances of preventing the condition from worsening increase. At the same time, it must be remembered that phytotherapy serves only as an aid and does not replace drugs prescribed by a doctor.
According to the same scheme, cinquefoil tincture is taken as a preventive measure for a month.
Tool action:
- removes salt deposits;
- strengthens the immune system;
- prevents the development of oncology;
- acts as a diuretic, lowers blood pressure;
- liquefies blood;
- restores tissue in the joints.
Tincture of cinquefoil is used externally in compresses for bruises, as it has a decongestant and healing effect. Open wounds are treated only at the healing stage, alcohol will only harm damaged tissues.
