Laziness … How much in this word! It is she who leaves our brightest dreams and smart plans as a beautiful fairy tale. Why are we lazy and what can we do about it? We’ll talk about this today.
In order for this article to bring you the maximum benefit, I suggest that you choose your laziness right now, to which you will apply everything that you read about below. For example, too lazy to learn English or too lazy to go in for sports. And in the course of the article, stop often and decide how you will apply the acquired knowledge.
So what is laziness? It is an unwillingness to do something. It can manifest itself in completely different ways. From simple “forgot to do” to active resistance to trying to do something that seems to be important.
First things first, it is important to figure out where your personal laziness comes from. And be as honest as possible, at least to yourself. Because the ways of fighting will be different.
But the question is: should we fight? After all, if we are struggling with something, then we, as it were, pump it with our energy. So laziness is friend or foe?
It depends. Surely you can remember situations when laziness helped you a lot. For example, at school I was too lazy to learn physics, and even mathematics, so when entering a university, one of the criteria was «so that without physics.» What I am very grateful to now: I would become an engineer, I would sit all day at AutoCAD: horror! I was also too lazy to go to lectures on statistics (believe it or not, I didn’t attend any, and I also didn’t attend seminars), and I confidently got a B on the exam: 5 cups of coffee and one night of preparation. But my laziness taught me to think VERY quickly.
So, about the reasons. We can be lazy because of (my classification):
- lack of motivation
- fears
- illusions
- negative associations
- lack of energy
- deep psychological reasons

Every living being, be it a human, a cat, or even a snail, has a “scale” built into it. Which on one «bowl» — the benefits of performing some action. And on the other — those costs (efforts, time, money, etc.) that we must incur in order to perform this action. And often this assessment occurs unconsciously: not only in snails, but also in humans. Depending on which thicket outweighs, you act (or do not act) in one way or another.
For example, you “know for sure” that you should get up early in the morning and run in the fresh air, but you haven’t done this for years. Outweighed the bowl of «energy costs.» Because the benefits for you are abstract: someone told you that running is good for you. And while this is true, if you don’t have personal experience of enjoying running, it’s all just theory to you. She’s not very motivating.
It is known that a lynx (a large wild cat) chases a hare through deep snow only until the energy costs of catching it exceed the energy that it will receive from eating it. And if you haven’t caught up in a short time, you give up the chase.
Therefore, if you are too lazy to do something, first of all think: do you need it? Just be honest. To you personally. And not your boss, husband / wife / children, Motherland, etc.
Or maybe they just hammered something into you from childhood (like “do exercises in the morning!”)? It only causes resentment. Until I felt the value of time with my «spinal cord», time management remained an abstract theory for me.
By the way, a competent leader knows how to make you really need what he wants from you.
Fears
Everyone has their own fears. But almost everyone is afraid of failure, failure. Even if they do not admit it to themselves and others.
And some (unconsciously) are afraid of success: what if I become rich, famous, etc.? This is a change in the usual way of life, “going beyond”.
It’s just that you need to get out. Otherwise, there is no development. Yes, and there is no life — only vegetation. You can train yourself to constantly overstep the boundaries of the known. Life will definitely become more beautiful — I’ve tried it: I’ve been living like this for many years.
Is fear really the enemy? I don’t think. As climbers say, those who had no fear are no longer with us … So fear is an assistant that protects us from stupid things, makes us act consciously, checking each step. It’s like walking (or running) through a minefield.
It’s just important that he doesn’t become a Cerberus that keeps you in a “cage”.
Illusions
Everything will form by itself. Everything will be fine, right? It will be a good job, family. There will be happiness. Someday…
It’s normal for a child to think that way. It is worse if a young man or girl “just hopes” for this. It is strange when a person in his 30s thinks so. It’s stupid if you’re 40. It’s sad if you’re 50…
Life is a project, very limited in time. And, as a rule, if you do nothing, then everything will be the same as what you have now. Or worse. There are exceptions. But the statistics are not in their favor.
Accept it. At first, you will feel very bad — that’s why most turn a blind eye to the truth. But “biting your elbows” at the end of life is even more painful.
And you will no longer be able to lie on the couch, stupidly pressing the buttons on the «zombie box» control panel. To believe that the authorities will one day raise your salary, that Oblomov’s husband will finally stop drinking and start making money. Or that your subordinate Durakin will finally come to his senses.
By the way, illusions all over the world and at all times are deliberately cultivated by the authorities, PR specialists, etc. After all, everything is fine in our country, right? Imagine what will happen if many «wake up» … But do not talk about «them»: think about yourself. And revolutions are also not necessary: build your life.
Negative associations
Were you fed a lot of hot milk as a child? Then it’s almost certain that you hate foams. I was forced to do my homework until I did it. And then many years passed before I learned how to easily sit down to complex mental work — such was the nasty «sediment».
Bad associations can be associated with the activity itself, with failures, with coercion, with the one who sets the task for you, etc.
Until you become aware of your negativity, you cannot do anything about them. But as soon as you honestly say them to yourself
(and better for another person — you can loudly and emotionally: “I hate !!!”),
their influence on you will be weakened.
Lack of energy
A person is like a battery: it is charged, then it is discharged. We all know that if the mobile phone is not charged, it will soon “sit down”. Do you think you are fundamentally different from him?
Each of us has our own ways of recharging. For some, this is a favorite sport, for someone — bright sex. Someone is charged by certain music, and someone by communication with people. But not with everyone. After meeting with some, you can not sleep for a day, and after talking with others, you fall into a viscous swamp of negativity.
What energizes you? What takes energy?
Write it down, and then increase the first in your life and get rid of the second. For example, it is useful to take a critical look at the circle of people with whom you communicate from time to time. And as a result, include someone new in your social circle, and remove someone from there. Softly, but persistently. I do this from time to time and am very pleased with the results.
Deep Psychological Causes
I won’t go into too much depth, just a brief summary. Because the topic is too big. Yes, and it is unproductive, in my opinion, to delve into the “problems of childhood” a lot. It is better to live in the present and build the future.
So, in life, most of us have scripts. Some are positive, others are different. For example, the scenario of a loser, an abandoned wife, etc. Often, scenarios are drawn from generation to generation, passed down from parents to children. Psychologist Eric Berne wrote about this in his books People Who Play Games and Games People Play. Very practical, incl. and for business. If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend it. The books are small.
There is a good method to become aware of your scripts and get rid of them: «Constellations according to Bert Hellinger.» Find an announcement on the Internet, go. It is useless to describe, but it is worth participating — many personal and business issues are resolved in a “magical” way.
A remark from N.I. Kozlov — “I don’t recommend constellations. Perhaps you can solve a specific issue, but in an imperceptible way you will create unnecessary problems for yourself. ”
Maybe you have secondary benefits from what’s happening right now. And then you have no reason to change something. For example, a husband works at a bad job, earns a penny. And why strain and work hard if the wife does it, giving him the opportunity to “do what he loves” (Russian women have such a massive hobby 😉 Yes, and mom sometimes helps with money. And of course, “the boss is to blame” for the fact that you get so little .
As you remember, I am FOR doing exactly what I love, and living in a high. But I am sure that you can also make good money on this.
Alas, the reluctance to change anything is often the case among business owners. When he understands with his mind that things are not going well, and something needs to be done. Even calls a consultant and pays money. Yes, but I’m not really ready to change anything (and especially myself). After several such cases, I generally stopped doing anything for the client. But I only work as a moderator, encouraging the owners themselves and their employees to move towards their goals. Yes, I can do this job better (describe business processes, etc.). But this will not help them: they will waste time and money, and the results of my work will gather dust in a closet or on a server. But if they “suffer”, but they themselves “give birth” to a solution (with my hints and tips), then they appreciate it and implement it. It takes a little longer, but it really works.
Other people
But how to motivate other people?
You will be surprised, but they are the same people as you. Therefore, apply everything that is written above.
And learn to understand their true needs. And make sure that in their minds your offer is associated with the satisfaction of needs. For example, you hire an employee: “Working with us, you will not only gain confidence in the future, but you will also be able to be proud of your company.” Like a slogan. But only for many people it is important, but it saves you money 😉
And if you learn to understand what is important to your employee or child, it will become much easier for you to motivate them.
