How to neutralize hot peppers
Hot peppers can cause a strong and unpleasant burning sensation, tears, and sometimes shortness of breath. Often mouth and hands suffer from this product, the surface of which is completely different, therefore, the methods of neutralizing the action of pepper are also different.
Try to handle hot peppers as carefully as possible, because it is much easier to prevent the occurrence of a burn than to deal with its consequences. Capsaicin is a substance that is part of this spicy vegetable and gives it a burning taste when it comes into contact with the skin in case of contact with the pulp of fresh pepper or in the mouth along with peppery food.
The degree of hotness of different types of pepper depends on the amount of capsaicin contained in each of them. The most pungent species are found in South America, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean; the softest hot peppers, such as the Italian peperoncini, in Europe. When cooking or harvesting peppers, be very careful to avoid getting capsaicin on your skin or eyes. If you suddenly take a vegetable with unprotected hands, be sure to wash them with soap and water.
In no case touch the hands with which you cut the pepper, to the area around the eyes and to the lips – here the skin is very sensitive, and the burning sensation will be felt much stronger
Neutralizing the action of pepper in the mouth
Drink something rich in fat to counteract the burning sensation in your mouth. Capsaicin is fat-soluble, but not water-soluble. Cream, yogurt or milk are great for this. In addition, cold drinking can very well relieve the burning sensation, for example, drink 1-2 glasses of cold milk, since the psychological effect of cooling will be added to the objective effect (dissolution of the burning substance in fat milk).
Such products can also help to remove the burning sensation:
- cucumbers
- salt
- honey
- bread
When you use them, you will feel relief quickly enough.
Neutralizing the action of pepper on the hands
If hot pepper gets on your hands, rub the affected area with table salt as soon as possible. In this case, you can add a few drops of water to the salt to evenly apply the mass over the entire skin. Soak the composition for about 10 minutes, then rinse first with milk and then with soap and water, completing the procedure with applying a moisturizer. If this does not help, immerse your hands in a strong alcoholic drink for 5-7 minutes. Salt can remove stubborn peppers from the skin, while milk, soap and alcohol can dissolve the remaining particles. You can also temporarily reduce the sensitivity of irritated skin by applying ice to the skin. To neutralize the action of pepper on your hands, use a folk remedy by applying a small piece of fresh cucumber to the affected skin area.
