If you have accumulated baby soap residues, try making a new soap out of them yourself. You just need to melt it and add the necessary ingredients. But how to melt soap at home so as not to spoil it? Consider the main methods, as well as the process of making the simplest homemade soap from the leftovers.

Knowing how to melt soap, you can make it new, healthier and more fragrant.

How to prepare soap for melting

You can melt the remaining soap using any heating method: stove, microwave or even oven. First, you need to prepare the soap:

  • On a grater with large holes, grate the rest of the soap. You can shred it using the knife attachment in your food processor.
  • If the soap is old and brittle, add 30 ml of olive oil per pound of soap.
  • To soften the soap, a liquid is added to it – an infusion of herbs or milk, 1 tablespoon per 0,5 kg of soap. The liquid should be completely absorbed into the soap shavings, so it should be left alone for a few hours.

After that, you can proceed directly to the remelting.

How to melt soap in a water bath

Fill the pot about a third with water. Place a metal bowl with soap shavings in this saucepan. There should be enough water in the larger saucepan so that it does not get into the soap, even if it starts to boil. Place the entire structure on the stove and heat over low heat. You can do this in the oven, but it is more difficult to control the heating process there.

Stir the soap shavings periodically. When the shavings turn into a translucent jelly-like mass, you can add the ingredients at your discretion:

  • Essential oils.
  • Dyes.
  • Med.
  • Cream.

Stir the soap thoroughly to distribute the fragrances and other ingredients evenly. The melted soap is viscous, but not too liquid, the consistency is poured into molds, carefully rammed, removing air bubbles. The soap is then left to harden.

This method is even simpler and faster:

  • Place the soap shavings in a plastic or glass container.
  • Place the bowl in the microwave.
  • Turn on for 3 minutes.
  • Remove the dishes and stir the soap.
  • Put back and turn on for another 3 minutes.
  • Repeat the operation until the chips are completely melted.

Add essential oils and other ingredients to the melted soap, pour into molds to harden.

Knowing how to melt soap and make a new one out of it, you will never again throw away the pieces, but will use them for your new creative hobby.
