For the vast majority of people who are slimming, the current body weight measurement proves the progress in the process of weight reduction, or the lack of it. Unfortunately, this method of monitoring the effects of weight loss also has numerous disadvantages. One of them is undoubtedly not taking into account the changes in body composition resulting from the training sessions – especially the modeling exercises. How can I fix it? Weighing should be supplemented with regular measurements of the circumference of individual parts of the body.

Why is it advisable, especially for people who have included systematic physical activity in their weight loss process, to supplement regular weighing with measurements of the circumference of individual parts of the body? This is due to the fact that the muscles that rebuild under the influence of systematic exercise (especially modeling exercises) are heavier than adipose tissue. The same amount of muscle weighs significantly more than the same amount of body fat. Hence, very often body weight does not change, despite the fact that the appearance of the body changes in favor. For this reason, measurements of the circumference of individual parts of the body should be an integral part of controlling the process of weight reduction.

What is measure?

To measure the circumferences of individual parts of the body, it is worth using the law found in v tailor’s tape, popularly known as a tape measure. Please note to use only one during the entire process of weight reduction a copy of the tailor’s tape. This solution ensures that the differences they will present the changes taking place in individual measurements in the body, not the measurement errors of the different copies of the centimeter used.

How are measure?

If performed measurements of the circumference of individual parts of the body are intended to control the effectiveness of the weight loss process, it must be constant – a way of measuring a specific part of the body cannot change from one part to the next research. This will allow you to visualize the changes taking place in the body, not the differences resulting from the use of different methods of measuring the circumference of individual parts body. Below I present the most commonly used methods of measuring body circumference in order to control the effectiveness of the weight loss process.

Chest circumference (axillary)

Tape centimeter should be placed horizontally (parallel to the ground) with the shoulders slightly raised to the side, but when measuring, the arms should be lowered freely along the torso. The tape must be placed as high as possible under the armpits, but not it may violate the natural contour of the transition between the arm and the torso. You need to measure done in an apnea.

Arm circumference (largest)

Tape centimeter should be placed at the thickest point of the arm, perpendicular to it long axis. During the measurement, the limb should be freely lowered, and your muscles are relaxed.

Forearm circumference (largest)

Tape centimeter should be placed in the thickest part of the forearm. Most often it is located just below the elbow joint. The centimeter tape must be positioned perpendicular to the long axis of the forearm. Limb during measurement it should be lowered freely and the muscles relaxed.
