How to make warm beds in the country: step by step instructions

It will be possible to start the summer cottage very early, as soon as the snow melts. But for this it is necessary to prepare the site for planting.

Early greens, radishes, cucumbers and tomatoes are a delight for the soul of a real summer resident. Sometimes it seems as if there is some kind of unspoken competition between gardeners, who have matured something earlier. And here there is a clever tool, how to overtake “competitors” in the beds. What – says our expert.

In October, the harvest is harvested and there will be enough time for landscaping. Warm beds can be made to protect crops from harsh weather conditions.

Easy assembly

  1. You will need to build a box with a height of at least 60 cm. Any material is admissible: boards, slate, timber, old brick. Be sure to treat the tree with an anti-rotting compound, motor processing or hot drying oil.

  2. Make a markup of the site, remove the sod. Lay a metal or nylon mesh (sold in garden centers) on the bottom of the box to protect the roots of plants from rodents.

  3. Do not forget about drainage, you can use broken bricks or stones.

Smart Pie

It will be easy to fill the box with biofuel if you understand how a warm bed works.

The lowest layer (about 30 cm) is formed from materials that take a long time to decompose: cuttings of wood and branches, cotton rags.

For the second layer (20–30 cm), materials of rapid decomposition are taken, among them weeds, tops, dead leaves, food waste, and falling apples. The second layer is covered with newspapers, this is required for the normal operation of the next layer of the “cake”. It should be composed of fertilizers (10-15 cm). Manure, dung, ash will do. The top layer is to be covered with fertile soil and covered with straw for the winter. In conclusion, the bed must be poured with a large amount of warm water, at least 5 buckets per square meter of area. Biological processes will start immediately.

Topcoat mix recipe

  • 6 buckets of black soil, peat or fertile land;

  • a bucket of river sand;

  • a bucket of small sawdust;

  • 2 glasses of ash;

  • a glass of lime;

  • 1 tbsp. l. superphosphate, 1 tbsp. l. potassium sulfate, 1 tbsp. l. urea, 2 tsp. boric acid.

Generational change

A wooden structure will last about 5-7 years, then it will need to be filled again. During this period, plants will draw out most of the nutrients, and the bulk of the biofuel will decompose.

In the first year, the most capricious and demanding plants are planted on a warm garden bed: peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, cabbage. For the 3-4th seasons, pumpkin, beets, cabbage, beans and carrots are suitable. From the fifth year – greens, radishes, lettuce, peas, celery.

It is not recommended to plant root crops and greens in a super fertile warm bed in the first year – they are prone to the accumulation of nitrates.

Harvest warm beds in the fall, after the previous harvest. In this case, from November to March or April, rotting will begin and develop in organic matter, and the heat released at the same time will be enough to create optimal conditions for the seedlings planted in early spring. Use the contents of used boxes as compost.

And by the way about unspoken competitions – now summer residents are measuring their harvest in social networks: who managed to achieve what records. Many are just right to envy!
