How to make the right choice? We find the answer with the help of metaphorical cards

They help us look into ourselves, sort out problematic situations and relationships, or even tune in to the day ahead. How to independently find solutions and answers to your questions using metaphorical cards?

Quite often we find ourselves in a situation of choice and cannot decide in any way. Which university to apply to? What place of work to choose? Leave your partner or stay with him? Where to go to rest? Should I buy a red car or a white one?

Why is it so hard to make a choice? We can be hindered, for example, by mutually exclusive desires, internal contradictions, social pressure, or simple confusion. In a state of internal chaos of thoughts and emotions, it is not easy to orient oneself and decide on a step that we will not regret later.

In such situations, metaphorical cards can come to the rescue.

If you need to choose from multiple options

For a situation of choice, any of your favorite decks is suitable, except for special ones (designed for a narrow circle of topics).

  • Ask the question: “How will I feel if I choose this option?”
  • Draw cards. You need to draw as many cards as you have options to choose from. Some put an additional card at the end, denoting “Another option” or “None of the proposed.”
  • Next, pick up the first card. Study it carefully and analyze your thoughts, emotions and feelings. Do you like what you feel or not?
  • Write down the ideas, thoughts, and feelings that come to you as you study the map.
  • Then move on to the next card.

At the end of the exercise, you will already have some certainty. If you haven’t made a decision yet, you can pull out additional cards for more details, ask other questions, or repeat the same steps later.

Practical example

Marina for a long time could not decide where and with whom she would celebrate her birthday. A friend persistently persuaded me to go to a concert and a party that would be on the same day. But Marina did not know anyone there, and this scared her a little. On the other hand, her parents and younger sisters happily waited for her to visit to celebrate in a warm family circle. But won’t it be boring there?

Marina drew two cards, one for each option, from an abstract deck of metaphorical cards in response to the question “How will I feel if I choose this option?”.

About the first card – “go to a concert and a party” – Marina said: “This image evokes vivid emotions. You definitely won’t want to sleep, and it’s unlikely to be bored. When I look at this picture, I even hear loud music, laughter and conversations in my head.

On the one hand, this is good, but on the other hand, the card gives me a headache. She is too active, tense. I am afraid that I will quickly get tired of the noisy company of people I do not know and by morning I will be squeezed out like a lemon.

The second card evoked other emotions in Marina: “There is peace, good mood, bright emotions, softness and even tenderness. It will not be so bright and noisy with my parents and sisters, but I will not lose my energy, but on the contrary, I will gain new strength. After all, next to me will be those who unconditionally love me!
