How to make the perfect move with the Spanish «Marie Kondo», Vanesa Travieso
Home
Planning, advance, organization, detachment and classification are the keys so that you do not stress during the move and get to enjoy the change of home
Moving home can be one of the most Stressful that we live in our life, not only because of the physical exhaustion that it supposes but also because of the accumulation of emotions that causes any cultural, , especially in this context of uncertainty that we are living
A poorly managed or poorly organized move can significantly reduce our well-being, our comfort and even our happiness for longer than we think (months or even years), according to professional organizer Vanesa Travieso. That is why the creator of «Put order», trained in the USA with the famous guru Marie Kondo, invited to know during the virtual meeting organized by ë-Jumpy of Citroën, everything that makes the difference between living “stressed or overwhelmed” by a move or enjoying the change and a new stage in another home.
The expert has more than proven the physical and psychological implications that a move entails. Not in vain he assures that he has personally lived that experience up to 17 times. However, she is convinced that it is possible to enjoy the process by following some simple guidelines that could be summarized under these five generic concepts: planning, in advance, detachment, organization y classification.
Planning
It is not only important to know where you are going (to know the space and measurements of each room), but we must also know, as Travieso suggests, where each of the things that you have will be located or if it will be necessary to acquire some furniture or some accessory so that everything has “its place”.
Advance
A move is not organized a few days before but, as the expert from “Put order” advises, it begins to prepare a month before. The first thing to do is to find suitable moving boxes of various sizes and shapes (“coat rack” boxes are especially useful).
The first thing we will begin to pack will be the things that we know we will not need in that month of “preparation” before the day of the move such as books, sheets and towels, clothes from another season, some kitchen utensils, toys, and so on.
Detachment
Once we have the boxes We will begin to save little by little the belongings that are not going to be used in that month and we will leave at hand what we will need on a daily basis.
This is, according to Travieso, one of the most important moments of the move, as it is the perfect opportunity to get rid of everything that we do not want to bring the new home. «The list of things can be endless and it is time to clean up everything that is expendable, either recycling, giving away or throwing it into its corresponding container. The list can be endless. From expired creams or cosmetics to old and broken toiletry bags, going through all kinds of bags, jars or jars ”, he proposes.
“Let the energy flow into the new house and get rid of everything that was stagnant and stored,” he advises.
When it comes to selecting what we really want to be part of our new home, the creator of «Put order» proposes that we give it the importance it deserves by choosing a place that allows us to enjoy it whenever we want instead of storing it and forgetting it . «You have to enjoy the beautiful or special things that we have instead of keeping them waiting for a special occasion to do so. Why do we keep such original tablecloths or the best plates and glasses or the best quality cutlery? Balance is achieved by enjoying what is beautiful, not keeping it», Sentence.
Organization
When it comes to organizing in the boxes the objects that we will finally keep (after having made a selection as exhaustive as possible) and we will take to the new home, we will organize the belongings in the boxes stay by stay. «When we begin to accumulate boxes that are already full, it will be useful to find one of the areas of the house where we can store them without interfering with our day-to-day life. We can choose one of the walls of a room to place them neatly and vertically, making a mountain of boxes, “he explains.
To pack we will need, in addition to boxes of all sizes that are easy to transport, a cutter, scissors, several rolls of packing tape, large rolls of cling film and large rolls of bubble wrap.
Some practical tips to ensure that the contents of the boxes stay in perfect conditions They are: fastening their respective cables and accessories with electrical tape attached to the electronic device, wrapping delicate things with sheets and towels, using small boxes for books, hanging the clothes in the “coat rack” and taking care of ourselves (transporting them ourselves). valuables such as documents, jewelry, and money.
Classification
But before starting to stack the boxes in the place of the house that we have chosen, they must classify and label, with the nomenclature or the code that we choose or with stickers or colors that allow us to identify its content at a glance, so that we have clear information at all times about what the box contains and in which room of the new home we will place it . For this, it will be useful, according to Travieso, to print a classification sheet for each room: living room, kitchen, master bedroom, children’s bedroom … etc, so that we know which are the boxes that the people who make the move must place in each room.
Do not forget…
- Know well each space of the house to which you are going to move to know where each piece of furniture and everything in your house should go
- Plan your move a month in advance
- Prepare boxes of different sizes, small for books and “rack boxes” for clothes
