How to make shellac matte
Description of several methods.
The modern nail industry gives the fair sex full carte blanche in the choice of manicure: matte coatings, and glossy and mirror manicures, and intricate designs on the nails … And in fact, not everything is as complicated as it seems at first glance. We will tell you about the ways to make shellac matte and about the features of each of the methods.
What is shellac?
To understand how to make shellac matte, you need to generally understand what shellac is. This is a gel polish that is much stronger than ordinary household polish, which we most often use to paint our nails at home. It is a hybrid of nail polish and gel. Accordingly, shellac lasts much longer on nails, and chips and abrasions are not characteristic of it. Shellac is removed with a file or a solution for removal.
How is gel polish different from shellac?
It seems like they are two different things, but no. Shellac was first invented and used in America as a trademark of the CDN brand. In fact, this is just the name of the gel polish!
How is matte shellac made in salons?
A distinctive feature of manicure is a glossy shine, which ladies of all ages so willingly followed. It creates the effect of neatness, gloss, high cost. But later everyone noticed a novelty: a matte manicure. It does not shine, but it looks noble, the effect of incompleteness is not felt in it, and the design looks fresh and non-trivial. How did the masters achieve such an effect?
To understand this, you need to remember how gel polish is generally applied to nails.
The first stage: degreasing and coating with a primer, which will ensure a more successful connection between the nail and the material.
Second stage: base application and drying. We dry the base layer of the gel only in the lamp, as it does not freeze by itself.
The third stage: application of gel polish. The master can go through the varnish in several layers until he achieves the desired pigmentation.
Stage four: using a top – the final coat that gives the nails a shine.
This very top not only gives a glossy shine, but also protects the manicure from damage, and also prevents the nails from getting dirty. But in the case of matte shellac, light colors of gel polish are easier to get dirty, which is not so easy to remove later!
How to make matte shellac: 3 ways
Use a matte top instead of a glossy one.
Sawing a matte finish (top) with a nail file: this is done with a buff or a file with soft abrasiveness.
Application of acrylic powder.
Matte shellac with a matte top
This is the first and easiest way to get a velvet manicure at home or in the salon. In addition to the glossy finish, there is also a matte finish on sale, which gives the desired effect. The only but: budget options do not fully cope with the task and still, as a result, give a slightly satin finish, that is, shimmering. And for the matte effect, this is not enough. Therefore, it is best to buy a matte top from trusted brands that have proven themselves.
Matte shellac with buff
Buff is a manicurist’s tool, a kind of file. It is a bar, different sides of which have different grain sizes. It can be used to file, grind and level the surface of the nail.
You can use a buff to make a matte shellac like this: after applying a glossy top, you should lightly walk with a file on the surface of the nail, removing that same glossy layer. It is not difficult to buy a buff, it is sold in all shops with nail products. It is worth making movements from the cuticle to the edges in order to evenly and gently remove the gloss without touching the very coating of the gel polish. By the way, this is the disadvantage of this method: you can get carried away with the buff and not notice how you are already cutting down a thin gel coating.
Matte shellac with acrylic powder
Another easy way to get your hands on matte shellac! To do this, you will only need a transparent powder, and any, even budgetary, the quality of the final manicure will not suffer from this.
Apply gel polish in stages:
degrease your nails, cover them with a primer for better adhesion of the nail plate with foreign materials;
apply base and cure nails in a lamp for 1 to 3 minutes;
Apply the first coat of gel polish and cure your nails in the lamp. This must be done without removing the sticky layer from the base;
apply gel polish on your nails and dry each layer and each nail;
apply a top with a sticky layer, but do not dry it;
take a jar of powder and a spatula, scoop up acrylic powder;
sprinkle powder on the nails in turn, you can dip each nail in a jar, if it is more convenient for you;
send the marigolds to the lamp for 1-3 minutes.
