How to make ripped jeans at home
If you want to have ripped jeans in your wardrobe, you don’t have to spend money on buying them. Using the tools at hand, you can make these fashionable clothes yourself.
What do you need to make ripped jeans?
Before starting work, you should choose the right jeans. The ideal option would be a tight-fitting model with a classic cut. Next, you need to outline the places of the cuts and choose the style of design of the thing.
To work, you need the following tools:
- stationery knife;
- scissors;
- a plank or thick cardboard;
- needle;
- pumice stone or coarse sandpaper.
The fabric should be cut according to the desired effect.
Ripped jeans at home in grunge style
Having chosen a suitable place, you need to cut 6-7 parallel stripes, the dimensions of which should not exceed half the width of the leg. The grunge style has a slight sloppiness in it, so the length of the cuts should be different. In order not to damage the back of the jeans, cardboard or a board is placed inside. From the resulting strips of fabric, you need to get several blue threads, which are arranged vertically.
Tip: if you want the edges of the slots to be even, use scissors, and to create a worn effect, use a clerical knife.
To finish the bottom edge of the leg, cut off the folded hem and rub the fabric with sandpaper or pumice stone. For a finishing touch, make some eye-catching cuts on the pockets.
How to make minimalist ripped jeans
This style completely removes vertical threads from the selected area. To do this, make two parallel cuts about 5 cm long. Then, using forceps, carefully remove all the blue threads. The shape and location of the treated areas can be arbitrary.
To make ripped jeans look more interesting, you can add a distressed effect. For this, the tools at hand are suitable:
- grater;
- pumice;
- sandpaper;
- sharpening bar.
Having chosen the places of processing, you should put a plank inside and with sharp movements drag it over the surface of the fabric with a suitable tool. A grater and pumice stone will leave deep scuffs, and after sanding or a sharpening bar, the fabric will look heavily worn. Moisten the material before starting work so that thread particles do not scatter around the room.
Making a fashionable wardrobe item is not difficult at all. By showing imagination and using additional decorative elements – rhinestones, pins, rivets – you can create a unique thing that will become a source of pride.
