How to make melon liqueur at home

A person is so arranged that when something does not work out for him, he seeks help. But when he managed to succeed in something (let his achievement be very tiny), he wants to talk about his success. This is how I do it!

I will not write that I have always been a connoisseur of fine alcoholic beverages. Therefore, their creation was of little interest to me. And so it would have continued, if not for the case. One day, I accidentally overheard a friend’s story about how he makes various drinks himself.

And he lives in an apartment building. He doesn’t have his own garden. Yes, and some free space in our apartments is unlikely to be found. But he described his “torments of creativity” so excitingly that the thought stuck in my head: should I try it too?

And I really like this approach to the life of my subscriber Tatyana from Cheboksary. Let’s celebrate her success! And at the same time we will try to make liquor according to her recipe.

Why I decided to make alcohol myself

I, unlike my friend, live in my own house, which is located in a small village. We have an excellent market where you can buy homemade fruits and berries. And even those fruits that do not grow in our area are delivered to the village regularly. That is, choosing high-quality raw materials is not a problem.

Before starting any experiments, I also thought over the question of the location of my “production”. As it turned out, in the future, it was completely redundant.

But it was worth it to insure for the first case. I chose the so-called “garage” – an empty building of aerated concrete blocks. So that certainly nothing interferes with the infusion of the drink.

Then I, like every modern person, “climbed” into the Internet. Have read a lot. Watched video tutorials. And I decided that I could try. As we say: “We also do not slurp cabbage soup.”

What ingredients are required

First of all, I had to determine what I want to receive? What will my future drink be like? And, therefore, from what I will make it.

I don’t know about you, but since childhood I have been very fond of melon. This fruit is simply luxurious. Unusual aroma and great taste are the qualities that are always associated with a unique berry. When you cut a melon, the sweet juice just flows through the knife. Already salivating.

In short, you probably already guessed that I was going to cook my “masterpiece” from a melon.

In addition to juicy berries, I stocked up on such a necessary thing as vodka. I also bought honey and sugar. Of course, I needed water.

That’s all my simple preparations. My budget did not suffer much from such purchases. And I was ready to start the experiment!

The cooking process

In order to prepare a fragrant liqueur, I acted as follows:

  1. I took 1kg of juicy sweet melon. Peeled the berry from the peel and seeds. Then the pulp was cut into small pieces and put them in a 3-liter jar. It turned out about half a can.
  2. Then I added 0,5 liters of vodka to the container (the most ordinary, without the Moroshi frills). After that, 5 tablespoons of honey went into the jar. My honey is fragrant, homemade. My relatives supply me little by little.
  3. I closed the jar with a lid and sent it to the pantry. It is always dark and there are no drafts. In addition, everything is at hand. After all, the drink must be insisted for 10 days. At the same time, do not forget to shake the jar every three days. This will mix the melon pieces with the liquid. And honey will dissolve better.
  4. After my drink sat in the pantry for 10 days, I moved on to the second stage of the “workflow”. For this, I made sugar syrup. The proportion I have is: 0,5 kg. sugar goes 0,5 l. water. When the syrup boiled, I let it boil for a couple of minutes. And left to cool to room temperature.
  5. Then I poured sugar syrup into a jar of infused melon. And again sent the drink to the pantry for 2 days.

So that is all!

What result did I get

And so I came to the end of the “operation”. In my opinion, the drink was already ready. So I started doing the following:

  1. I took gauze, folded it in several layers.
  2. After that, a sieve was inserted into the prepared bottle.
  3. And then carefully strained the liquid through cheesecloth and a sieve.

I liked the result already purely visually. The color of the drink was light yellow. I can’t describe the aroma in words. But believe me, it smelled very nice. It felt like melon. The drink turned out to be thick and quite viscous.

And here comes the decisive moment. It’s time to take a sample. Naturally, for such a case, I need an assistant. As a “consultant” I invited my sister. When we took the first sip, we both nodded our heads at the same time. It really was melon liqueur.

Perhaps someone will say that this is a melon tincture, but it is quite thick, like a liquor. The taste of the drink is soft, elegant. Juicy melon is pronounced. But honey is good too. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Only a berry. Yes, it was a success!

They say beginners are lucky. Only after the melon liqueur did I have a real passion. I started making drinks based on various fruits and berries. As well as coffee, egg, milk liqueurs.

Our family gatherings are now accompanied by a glass of only homemade “nectar”. Nothing to buy! I managed!
