One of the benefits of green bananas is their high content of indigestible starch. For those trying to avoid foods high in sugar, green bananas are beneficial, while yellow bananas are contraindicated.
Green bananas also contain probiotic bacteria that ferment in the colon, which is beneficial for health. Plus, green bananas also help the body absorb nutrients better, especially calcium.
But if you are more used to eating yellow bananas, there are ways to make green bananas ripen faster.
- Wrap the fruits in a paper bag (just paper and even newspaper will do) and leave for 1-2 days. This will allow the fruit to breathe without drying out. And the ethylene gas emitted by them will accumulate and bring maturation closer. Place the banana bag in a warm place. The higher the temperature, the faster they mature; ethylene is produced more intensively at higher temperatures.
- Place the bananas in a preheated oven for a few minutes. They will ripen instantly.
- To turn green fruits into yellow, place them in a cardboard shoebox. In addition to bananas, add a couple of ripe red apples. Close the box with a lid and send it to a warm place, such as a kitchen cabinet, for 1-2 days.
