How to make banana seedlings and houseplants fertilizer
Throwing out the banana peel means you don’t have a vegetable garden! Experienced summer residents know the secret in growing seedlings, so they make fertilizer from the fruit. Thanks to this feeding, the plants receive nutrients, they get sick less, and also fertilizer from the banana peel scares away aphids.
Banana fertilizer: benefits and harms
Banana peel is rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and sodium. It fights insect pests and protects plants from disease. For fertilization, the banana peel is dried, fried, infused and ground into powder. In any form, it retains its useful properties.
For rapid growth, bananas are treated with harmful chemicals – ethylene and hexachlorocyclohexane. They have an equally negative effect on plants and the human body. Therefore, wash bananas with hot water and soap before eating. Another way is to find a trusted supplier that does not use carcinogens.
Excessive use of fertilizer reduces the protective function of plants, and they die. Add banana peels to your “diet” as needed and be prepared for the specific offensive odor of the fertilizer.
How to make banana peel fertilizer for seedlings
Banana peel fertilizer is “loved” by tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. For them it is better to use:
- raw skins;
- dried peel;
- compost.
It is enough to bury chopped raw banana skins in the beds. After 10 days they will be “digested” by microorganisms and bacteria, without leaving even a small piece.
When preparing the seedling base, sprinkle the bottom layer with dried banana skins. To do this, spread the banana peel on batteries, and then use it as directed. Store the remaining fertilizer in paper bags.
Prepare compost for bulbous plants: add chopped banana skins to a bucket of earth, fill everything with water and mix. After a month, repeat the procedure and leave the mixture to infuse for another 1 month. The finished compost will be dark black, greasy and nutrient dense.
How to make banana peel fertilizer for indoor plants
Houseplants are fertilized during the budding period or when there is a lack of vitamins. These days “feed” flowers:
- fried peel;
- frozen skins;
- infusion.
Fry the banana peels in the oven. Place foil on a baking sheet and spread the skins. After cooking, refrigerate them, cut into small pieces and place in an airtight bag. Tip: The peel will fry faster if you grind it first.
Put fresh whole or chopped banana skins in the freezer. With such storage, the fertilizer will always be at hand and will not lose its properties, and the flowers will not be left without something tasty.
Water your houseplants with a healthy infusion. To do this, pour boiled water into a three-liter jar and send 3 banana peels there. After 2 days, strain the infusion. Before watering, mix the resulting infusion with boiled water in a 1: 1 ratio.
