The advantage of a country toilet is that it can be quickly built on the site and, if necessary, rearranged to another place. This is where the advantages of the outdoor bathroom end, and the big problems begin. The cesspool fills up with waste over time. It must be pumped out or dig a new one, and preserve the old one. With the onset of heat, the smells from the toilet are carried throughout the dacha, spoiling the rest of the owners and neighbors. Using new technologies, a toilet was made for giving without smell and pumping out, relieving the owners of a suburban area from these problems.
The source of the problems of the country toilet is the cesspool
Under the summer toilet in the country, they dig a cesspool. The tank serves as a waste collector. To reduce the spread of bad odors and prevent contamination of the soil, the cesspool of the country toilet is sealed with a bottom. However, such a reservoir quickly fills up and needs to be pumped out. The problem is especially noticeable if a sewerage from a residential building is connected to the pit.
Many owners of summer cottages make the drainage bottom of the cesspool. The first few years, the liquid is freely absorbed into the soil, and the solid fractions settle to the bottom. With an increase in sediment, siltation of the cesspool begins. The summer resident has even more problems with cleaning it than with a sealed tank. Sewage with solid waste has to be removed, after which it is necessary to restore the filter bottom.
The main inconvenience of using a cesspool in the country is as follows:
- Maintenance of the cesspool of a country toilet is accompanied by certain costs. Rapid filling of the tank requires frequent pumping. Calling a sewage truck every year costs the summer resident more.
- No matter how the owner of the toilet tries to seal the cesspool, the bad smell emanating from it spreads over a large area of the cottage.
- Even the most reliable cesspool eventually loses its tightness of the walls. Sewage seeps into the ground, poisoning the site and groundwater.
- In a small summer cottage, a cesspool does not allow you to get your own well. There is a possibility of drinking water poisoning.
Having installed an odorless and pumping toilet on his site, the owner bears certain costs only at the initial stage. But he gets clean air, and also gets rid of the extra costs of pumping out the cesspool.
Options for arranging a country toilet without smell and frequent pumping
So, it’s time to consider possible options on how to make an odorless toilet in the country, and so that it should be pumped out as rarely as possible. You can replace the cesspool in the country in the following ways:
- install a dry closet;
- buy a plastic septic tank or make it yourself from concrete rings;
- get a modern cleaning system.
The choice of each of the methods depends on the seasonality and the number of people living in the country, as well as financial capabilities.
Peat dry closet – the cheapest solution to the problem of a bathroom in the country
Buying a peat bathroom will help organize a cheap toilet in the country without smell. If desired, such a dry closet can be made independently. The essence of the functioning of the toilet is the presence of a small container for waste. It is installed under the chair. After visiting the dry closet by a person, the waste is sprinkled with peat. Store-bought peat toilets have a mechanism that does the job of powdering. In a home-made version, peat is covered manually with a scoop.
Peat dry closet has a compact size. It can be placed anywhere, whether it is a designated corner inside the house or a booth exposed outside. A dry closet is indispensable in a summer cottage with high groundwater, since it will not work to dig a cesspool here. The disadvantage of a peat toilet is the inability to connect the sewer. If people live in the country house in winter and the house has a sewerage system with connected water points, the dry closet will have to be abandoned.
Overflow septic tanks – a modern solution for a country bathroom
With year-round living in the country, it is ideal to acquire a septic tank. This will already be a real toilet for giving without smell and pumping out, capable of processing a lot of sewage. You can buy a septic tank ready-made or make it yourself from any containers. Concrete rings, plastic tanks, iron barrels are suitable for work. In general, any building material that allows you to make sealed chambers is suitable.
The size and number of chambers are calculated according to a three-day accumulation of sewage. The fact is that the waste inside the septic tank chambers is processed by bacteria in three days. The size of the containers for this period should be enough to contain the waste, plus a small margin is needed.
Typically, a country overflow septic tank consists of two or three chambers. Waste from the sewerage enters the first chamber, where decomposition into solid fractions and liquid occurs. Through the overflow pipe, dirty water enters the second chamber, where the second stage of purification takes place. In the presence of a third chamber, the procedure with liquid is repeated. From the last chamber, purified water goes through pipes to the filtration field. Through the drainage layer, the liquid is simply absorbed into the soil.
Waste treatment systems
The operation of treatment systems resembles septic tanks, only with an increased number of sewage processing stages, plus additional equipment is used. Purification systems are complex and expensive as a country toilet, but still require attention:
- An ultrafiltration based treatment system converts waste into completely purified water suitable for reuse. Cleaning occurs without the use of chemicals.
- Ion exchange reagents are used in the system of fast waste processing. The reagents make it possible to impart the required rigidity to the purified liquid.
- The treatment system with electrochemical deposition after sewage processing forms a precipitate of metal impurities in the liquid. Next, chemicals remove these impurities from the water.
- The best cleaning system for giving is considered a membrane reverse osmosis. Passing through the reverse membrane, the waste is processed into distilled water. The membrane passes through its pores only water molecules, and retains all solid fractions and even chemical impurities.
Initially, any treatment system is expensive, but the owner of the cottage will forget about the bad smells of the street toilet, and the frequent pumping out of the cesspool.
The video tells how to choose a dry closet for a summer residence:
Ventilation in country toilets
The reason for the spread of a bad smell from the toilet in the summer cottage is not only the presence of a cesspool, but also the lack of ventilation. Moreover, it is desirable to organize ventilation of the tank itself and the room where the toilet seat or toilet is installed.
The ventilation of the country street toilet is made of PVC pipes with a diameter of 100 mm. It is fastened with clamps to the back wall of the house from the side of the street. The lower end of the pipe is immersed 100 mm under the cover of the cesspool, and the upper edge is brought out 200 mm above the roof of the house. A cap is put on from the rain. Natural ventilation inside the house is organized by windows. From below, a window is provided for the influx of fresh air, and from above – for the exit of dirty air masses. Most often, country toilet houses are equipped with one upper window. The influx of fresh air is obtained due to the slots in the doors.
The ventilation of the country bathroom in the house is organized by installing a fan pipe. It is a continuation of the sewer riser, to which the toilet is connected. Inside the bathroom, it is best to make forced ventilation. To do this, it is enough to install an exhaust fan powered by electricity.
As you can see, if you try to creatively approach the issue, do not regret investing money, you can build a modern toilet in the country that does not require frequent pumping of waste and without bad smells.
