Imagine you are standing in front of a tall pyramid of sparkling wine glasses and filling it with champagne. And around you are ladies in beautiful dresses, men in tailcoats, crystal chandeliers, an orchestra playing a waltz … And everyone applauds you, they wonder how you manage to pour wine into glasses so deftly and not spill a drop.
I’ve decided to surprise my wife by March 8 and learn how to make such pyramids from glasses. I don’t promise an orchestra and crystal chandeliers, but I’ll try to surprise my beloved.
By the way, the pros ask for such a slide from 4 to 12000 rubles.
What glasses can be used to make a pyramid for champagne
There are 3 types of glasses that can be used to build a cascade.
martini cocktail glass
Cocktail glass, Martini glass – a glass on a leg, the shape of the bowl is conical, with a wide top. Volume from 90-240 ml. A glass of 90 ml is more suitable than others for building a pyramid. They are sometimes referred to as “martins”.
Buyta – glass for Margarita
Margarita glass is usually used for the drink of the same name, but is also suitable for a slide of champagne. Stem glass with deep bottom and wide mouth. It looks as if a bowl was attached to a glass on a stem.
Sower
Sour glass, double shot, bowl. A glass on a leg with a wide bowl, slightly truncated towards the bottom. Previously, they served champagne in these, but this fashion is already in the past. In a wide container, a sparkling drink quickly “erodes”, it is customary to serve it in tall narrow flute glasses. A bowl is also suitable for building a cascade.
How to build a pyramid of glasses at home
A cascade of glasses is spectacular, spectacular and beautiful. Especially if you manage to fill the glasses, starting from the very top and not spilling the fizzy drink. Such a show will decorate any holiday. What will be needed?
- Decide what the pyramid will be. With triangular or square base. It depends on what you like more and on the number of glasses.
- Count the number of glasses. It must be equal to the number of guests. More is possible, less is not.
- How many bottles of champagne? Multiply the volume of one glass by their number, divide by the volume of the bottle. Round up to the nearest integer +1 bottle.
- To install the cascade, you will need a large tray and a stable table with a tablecloth. Appropriate decor: flowers, garlands, fireworks.
How to build:
- Draw a diagram so as not to be distracted by the calculations in the process. Arrange the first row exactly in a triangle or square, it’s easy, then it’s more difficult and you need to be more careful.
- Depending on the shape of the slide, triangle or square, the stem of the wine glass on the second tier rests on 3 or 4 wine glasses from the bottom row.
- There should be only one glass on top.
If you want to impress your guests, practice. Start with small slides of 4-5 wine glasses. Installing glasses, filling them will require patience and dexterity. The container must be placed exactly, tightly to each other.
Buy glasses with a margin, suddenly rehearsals will not do without losses. To practice refilling, use an empty champagne bottle and water.
Tip: buy wine glasses with low legs, the width of the top of which is equal in diameter to the width of the stand (base).
How to pour champagne into glasses that stand in a pyramid
The real skill is when the cascade is filled with champagne and only a few drops of wine from the base row are spilled onto the table. If the glasses are placed correctly, then such a trick is quite within your power.
After the slide is installed, the crucial moment comes: filling. Uncork the bottle and, bringing it to the top glass, start filling.
- Do not lift the bottle too high above the glass. But not too low, so as not to accidentally hit the edge and break the slide.
- Take your time, let the champagne pour slowly. You can fill from two bottles at once, but do not rush either.
If filled quickly with sparkling drink, the show will look spectacular, but there will be a lot of splashes and spilled drink.
Pyramids of champagne glasses from the Guinness Book of Records
The three most famous records for building a cascade:
- Amsterdam, Holland, 2006. Businessman Gert Jan Stock built a cascade in the shopping center for the “Hospitality Show”. 35 wine glasses were used, and its height turned out to be 990 meters, with a 7-storey house.
- Gus, The Netherlands, 2007. Luke Broos built a pyramid of 41 glasses at the Seelandhallen, beating his own record of 664 last year. The height of the structure is more than 39 meters, 711 tiers of wine glasses.

That’s all with the records, the last one has not yet been beaten. I won’t try to beat him yet. Until March 8, I will train hard and, I hope, I will be able to surprise my wife and our guests. Have you tried pouring wine into glasses with a pyramid? Do you have any secrets of this process?
