The New Year is already catastrophically close, but you haven’t figured out how to surprise your guests yet? You can use a proven scheme and put champagne with tangerines on the table. Boring? Then it’s time to remember the second contender for the title of “most New Year’s fruit”!
The pomegranate looks extraordinarily elegant, shimmering like a ruby in the light of garlands. And its grains, which are widely used to decorate culinary delights and drinks, resemble elegant Christmas decorations! That is why this time we dedicated the traditional selection of New Year’s drinks from the Rum Diary to cocktails with pomegranate.
Before that, we have already told you how to prepare original alcoholic mixes based on champagne and gin. In this case, we will not drive ourselves into the rigid framework of a particular alcoholic drink, but will offer you variations of the most popular cocktails that will definitely create a New Year’s mood.
Pomegranate Mint Moscow Mule
A variation on the theme of the classic Moscow Mule cocktail, which became extremely popular in the United States in the middle of the last century, along with the flourishing of the vodka drinking culture. Traditionally served in a copper mug.
Ingredients:
- ice crash
- 3/4 st. ginger beer
- 1/3 st. pomegranate juice
- 30-60 ml. vodka (depending on what strength you like)
- 1 tbsp lime juice
To serve a glass:
- pomegranate seeds
- fresh mint leaves
- 1 / 4 Art. icing sugar
- water
How to cook:
Fill a glass with crushed ice. Pour in ginger beer, vodka, pomegranate and lime juice. Serve with pomegranate seeds and candied mint leaves.
To prepare this beauty, individually dip each sprig of mint in water and carefully roll in powdered sugar. We spread it on baking paper and leave it in this form to dry at room temperature for 3-6 hours. It is best to prepare a snow-covered decoration the day before – mint leaves will retain their properties perfectly if placed in a closed container for about a day.
Pomegranate Cranberry Punch
In our country, punch is considered not just a festive drink, but rather pretentious and aristocratic. No wonder the tradition has long been to bring the bowl as solemnly as possible, and only then pour it into glasses! Therefore, punch will be the perfect drink for a New Year’s party – in the illumination of sparklers and garlands, the serving of the drink will be even more spectacular!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen
- 0,5 pomegranate (about 0,5 tbsp. grains)
- 1 Art. Sahara
- 1 Art. water
- sparkling wine Prosecco or champagne
- a couple of fresh mint leaves
- 1 wedge of lime
- лед
- cranberries and pomegranate seeds for serving
How to cook:
First, let’s prepare the syrup. We put a saucepan with water on a small fire. Add sugar and mix thoroughly until it dissolves. Add cranberries and pomegranate seeds. Stirring continuously, cook for about 5 minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat, cool, take out the floating berries.
If you prefer sweet drinks, you can make this cocktail with pomegranate juice mixed with cranberry juice without adding water.
At the bottom of the glass we grind a couple of mint leaves and a slice of lime. Throwing ice cubes. Pour 1/4 cup of ready-made chilled syrup. Add Prosecco or Champagne to taste.
Sparkling Pomegranate Punch
The main secret of a delicious punch is to drink it in good company! Fortunately, the drink turns out to be enough so that everyone present at your New Year’s party can try it!
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. pomegranate juice
- 1,5 st. orange juice
- 1,5 tbsp. apple cider
- 750 ml. champagne
- 1 grenades
- orange peel twist
- 12 sprigs of rosemary
- 1 Art. icing sugar
How to cook:
Let’s start with candied rosemary. We place the branches under a stream of running water to slightly moisten them. Dip well in powdered sugar and place on baking parchment. Depending on the thickness of the sugar layer and the temperature in the room, it may take from 1 hour to the whole night for the snow fir trees to dry. So we recommend that you prepare this decoration in advance, especially since it perfectly emphasizes the New Year’s atmosphere!
Mix pomegranate and orange juice, cider and juice of one lemon in a deep container. Mix and refrigerate until serving.
When the guests have gathered, slowly pour champagne into the prepared mixture and add orange twist spirals. Gently stir, after which we fall asleep pomegranate seeds (if you do this earlier, the champagne bubbles will come out faster).
Pour into glasses, and decorate each with a “herringbone” of candied rosemary and a “serpentine” twist.
There are several variations of this drink: an alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktail with pomegranate juice – in this case, apple juice is used instead of cider, and soda is used instead of champagne.
