How to make a clock on the wall with your own hands. Video
Electronic watches have literally flooded the world. But they are not always appropriate. In any case, in an apartment, the interior of which is made in the old style, mechanical walkers or their imitation will look much better. And for a summer cottage, a sundial or water clock is suitable. In a word, there are quite a few options. Therefore, do not throw away your old mechanical watches, because you can always make a stylish and unique piece of furniture out of them.
Imitation of a mechanical watch
To make a mechanical watch, you need not only the appropriate parts, but also some skill in working with very small objects. The necessary skills do not appear immediately, so making a watch can take more than one year. Imitation is another matter. The clock in a wooden case looks exactly like an old one, but at the same time it is powered by an electronic mechanism. To make a table or wall clock, you will need: – an electronic mechanism; – plywood; – a jigsaw; – a drill; – liquid nails or universal glue; – sandpaper; – compasses.
Cut a square out of the plywood. Find the point of intersection of its diagonals. Draw a circle centered at this point, then drill a hole in it and insert the electronic clockwork there. Two arrows must be attached to the mechanism, a long and a short one. They can also be cut out of plywood. Hands from old watches that are suitable in size will also do. Before attaching them to the mechanism, clean the plywood arrows with sandpaper, paint and varnish them. They should be clearly visible on the dial. Divide the circle into 12 parts so that marks 12 and 6 are strictly vertical, and 3 and 9 are horizontal.
There are quite a few dial design options. You can cut and glue all the numbers, four, two, or even one. Nothing prevents you from doing without numbers at all, placing instead of them strips of different lengths, multi-colored circles, etc. That, in fact, is all. It remains only to arrange your work. Arrange beautiful patterns in the corners and cut them out. Hang your watch on the wall.
Arrows can be made openwork. It is very important that they do not merge with the dial.
Making a stylish sundial with your own hands is not at all difficult. They represent a pole stuck in the ground. When the sun moves, the “arrow” showing the time is a shadow. Place the vertical pole on a level surface. The shortest shadow occurs at astronomical noon. But we do not use astronomical time, but the daylight saving time. Therefore, you will need to calibrate your dial. Note the position of the shadow on the court every hour. The method depends on which site you have. If it is earthen, you can drive in pegs with numbers. It is convenient to draw with chalk on an asphalt surface, and paint or a marker on concrete. Draw lines from the marks to the base of the pole. These will be hour divisions.
Now you can design your watch. You can paint a pole, fix the sun or any other figure on the top. The dial can be laid out with stones or tiles, instead of numbers put small sculptures, etc. Please note that the length of the shade will be different in winter and summer. But a sundial is not only a device for measuring time, but also a stylish element of the decor of your summer cottage.
On the same dial, you can make numbers for the daylight saving time and astronomical time
Your little one will love this unusual water clock. They can be made from two identical transparent plastic bottles with caps. The shape of the bottles does not matter, but they must be standing. Pay attention to the covers, they should be flat on top. Glue the covers with flat surfaces. Measure the height of the bottles. Make marks around the middle. Heat the pin and quickly poke holes in the walls of both bottles at the level of the marks. These holes are needed for air to enter. Make the same hole in the center of the jumper obtained by gluing the plugs. Clean the edges of the holes in the covers from possible melting. This can be done with a knife or sandpaper. The main thing is not to bore the hole.
Pour a quarter of the height of water into one of the bottles. Close it with glued lids. Screw the second bottle on top. Prepare a stopwatch to measure the time. At the start of the countdown, close the side hole on the water bottle with your finger, turn the watch over so that the empty bottle is at the bottom. Remove your finger from the hole. Water will begin to drain slowly into the lower container. Note the level after 1, 2, or 3 minutes. When measurements are completed, lay the entire structure on its side. Remove the bottle that originally contained the water and discard the rest. Collect the watch again. Your watch is ready.
The device is convenient in that, by opening the air intake hole, you can clearly adjust the starting moment. The clock can also be stopped by blocking the hole. By the way, the water can be tinted. Food coloring works best.
