Nothing is too organic for Baby
Little by little, organic is making its nest. No more talking about a simple fad, organic has become a real art of living and a safe bet for parents who are more and more concerned, like Sandra, for the well-being of their little one. ” When my daughter was born, I wanted everything that was best for her, so I breastfed her for 13 months and started diversification with organic vegetables and fruits. ».
A trend which is confirmed in the figures: in 2005, one in two French people consumed an organic product at least once a month.
The main principles of “organic”
Let it be said, it is not enough to be a farmer to be able to claim to be organic. The use of chemicals and GMOs is of course prohibited. But to access the organic market, it is still necessary to obtain the precious sesame: a certification issued by an independent body which authorizes the affixing on the products of one of the European licenses. Among the best known are: Organic Agriculture (AB), Nature et Progrès, Demeter. Each license has its own specifications to which companies wishing to join the organic sector must adhere.
How to navigate this mishmash? Note that these specifications are approved by the French State and / or the European Union and the productions are subject, at least once a year, to a control by an external body.
Although some organic products meet more restrictive criteria, the approach is the same for all producers: respect nature and animals. Being green also means thinking about recycling: this is why packaging is reduced but also non-polluting.
Too expensive for organic? 20% more compared to traditional products, that’s the price to pay to live organic. An increase mainly due to lower yields than in intensive agriculture using chemical fertilizers. As production costs remain high, they are passed on to the consumer at the end of the chain. |
