Thus, the question arises of how to keep the strawberries fresh if they are harvested in large quantities. However, you can keep berries in the house for no more than 3 days. In the refrigerator, the maximum shelf life is a week. To remember the taste of summer berries for a long time, you must first process it and only then remove it.

How to keep strawberries for the winter?

Strawberries are harvested in dry weather, when it’s warm outside. After rain, drops remain on the berries, due to which rot is formed. Once you have brought the strawberries home, use one of the following processing methods:

  • Harvesting using sugar. Rinse the berries under water, freeing them from the sepals. Get rid of rotten specimens. Grind the strawberries with sugar and pour the mixture into the jars.
  • Drying of small berries. Preheat oven to 60 ° C. Spread the picked strawberries on a wide parchment-lined baking sheet. Dry the berries there. Store them in cardboard boxes.
  • Freezing the gifts of the forest. If you don’t want to spend a lot of time harvesting strawberries, put them in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer. It is not necessary to wash the berries before this.

How to keep strawberries fresh at home?

With the onset of winter, you can take a handful of strawberries out of the refrigerator at any moment and add them to dessert or baked goods. It is also good to put berries pureed with sugar in tea.

How to preserve strawberries: making jam

It happens that there is not enough space in the refrigerator to store food. In this case, you can make jam from strawberries, which is considered one of the most common winter preparations. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Take a certain amount of strawberries and 2 times more sugar. Add half of the sand to a pot of water. Set the container to low heat.
  2. Wait for the sugar to dissolve. Pour berries to it. Bring the mixture to a boil so that it boils. Now turn the heat to low and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the other half of the sand there. Mix everything thoroughly. There should not be any grains of sugar left in the jam. Remove the pan from heat.
  4. Leave the berries on the stove until they cool completely. Then put them back on low heat and bring the jam to a boil. Do this 2-3 more times.

The last boil should take you 10 minutes so that the berries will then retain their integrity. Then pour the jam into clean glass jars, sterilize them, and roll up the lids. Keep it in the refrigerator or on a dark pantry shelf.
