Inhalations with eucalyptus affect the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, facilitating the release of mucus and phlegm, and also have anti-inflammatory properties. But in order to see the therapeutic effect, you need to properly inhale.
Eucalyptus oil is not used to treat children less than a year old. About using it for children under 3 years old, you need to consult a pediatrician. It is not recommended to use eucalyptus for people with liver or biliary tract diseases.
The procedure can be carried out in the old fashioned way or with a nebulizer using eucalyptus leaves or its essential oil.
- Pour a tablespoon of eucalyptus into a small saucepan with a glass of boiling water. The broth should be infused for 15 minutes, after which three more glasses of hot boiled water are added to the container. The saucepan is put on fire, but you do not need to bring the liquid to a boil. Steam should come from it. You need to cover your head over the saucepan with a towel or clean cloth and inhale the steam deeply. Adults should repeat the procedure three times a day for 10 minutes, and for children, two times are enough. Inhalations for babies should not exceed 3 minutes in duration.
- Inhalation with eucalyptus oil is best done without heating. This means you don’t need to breathe over hot steam. The fact is that the beneficial substances in essential oil are destroyed at temperatures above 40 ° C. In a small container, a small washed bottle of some medicine is perfect, mix a tablespoon of sea salt and a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil and breathe if the nose is very stuffy.
- The nebulizer makes the inhalation process more convenient. For inhalation with a nebulizer, an alcoholic tincture of eucalyptus is used. It is diluted with saline in a proportion of 200 ml per 15 drops of tincture. With the help of a nebulizer, the medicinal solution is delivered to absolutely all parts of the respiratory system, which makes the inhalation process more efficient.
Also, when carrying out inhalations, you need to follow simple general rules:
- do not eat for an hour before and after the procedure;
- take a comfortable position;
- inhale as deeply as possible.
Inhalation is contraindicated at elevated temperatures – above 37,5 ° C, high blood pressure, diseases of the cardiovascular system. It is recommended to keep your eyes closed during the procedure.
Observing all the rules, you can get the maximum benefit from the treatment procedure.
