Allergy to dust mites is an allergy that you have to fight every day. Its problematic results from the fact that mites cannot be seen with the naked eye and they can be found anywhere. Therefore, it is important to follow a few rules that will reduce and limit the causes and symptoms of allergies.

In the fight against mites, it is necessary to eliminate conditions that favor the development of mites from the child’s environment. That is why it is so important to frequently remove dust from the rooms where our child spends the most and the longest time. So that cleaning does not consume all our time, you can organize your home space to make cleaning and fighting mites easier.

  • do not use a humidifier and do not dry laundry in the apartment – it increases the humidity of the air. With humidity up to 50%, mites do not reproduce
  • books should be placed in closed shelves, not on open shelves (closed ones will collect dust to a much lesser extent)
  • the apartment should be dry and cool
  • do not clean in front of the child. It is best to let them into the cleaned room after about an hour after the end of cleaning
  • your child’s bed should have a lightweight, new mattress with a mite-proof underlay. Bed linen should be stored in bed drawers during the day
  • in the child’s room, furniture should be placed that is easy to vacuum, and toys should be stored in containers, drawers and shelves so that they do not accumulate dust
  • hang light curtains on the windows or install easy-to-clean blinds. You can also install blinds mounted between the outer and inner panes
  • removing down pillows and quilts and woolen blankets from the home
  • special covers should be put on bedding and mattresses. These are usually so-called barrier coatings
  • carpets and rugs should be removed from the floors. Panels, parquet or tiles are easier to keep clean
  • small trinkets, figurines and dried flowers should disappear from the shelves
  • we recommend frequent ventilation of the apartment, especially in winter
  • pets are not allowed in the bedroom
  • do not put your child to sleep with a wet head – water from the hair soaks into the pillow, and moisture is conducive to the development of mites. You should dry your hair before going to bed

How to clean furniture and toys at home?

For cleaning to give the best results, it is worth using baking soda to clean upholstered furniture, carpets and children’s toys. Sprinkle the baking soda evenly on the carpet or furniture upholstery and leave it for about half an hour. After the time has elapsed, it must be removed with a vacuum cleaner. Soda will effectively get rid of dirt, microorganisms and unpleasant odors.

Baby toys that cannot be easily cleaned can be placed in the freezer for 48 hours. The low temperature destroys the mites.

If we make our home a friendly space for a child suffering from an allergy to dust mites, they will be much healthier and happier. Certainly, the symptoms of allergies will also disappear – stuffy nose, runny nose, rash and red eyes. However, it should be remembered above all when cleaning that it gives the best results when it is carried out regularly. Following a few simple rules will ensure success in the fight against mites.
