Often, when buying seedlings of tomatoes or strawberries, gardeners are faced with the fact that the grown plant does not turn out to be of the type they wanted. Therefore, many people prefer to harvest planting material on their own. The science of how to grow seedlings from seeds is pretty straightforward. The main thing is to adhere to the basic rules of planting and caring for plants.
How to grow tomato seedlings from seeds?
In order to get strong tomato bushes that can take root in the open field or in a greenhouse, it is necessary to create comfortable conditions for the seeds. As a rule, sowing is carried out in late February – early March. You should be guided by the weather conditions of the region, as well as the early maturity of the variety. For seedlings, it is better to choose a well-lit place, or at least provide it with phytolamp illumination.
For tomatoes, it is better to purchase ready-made soil at a flower shop. But it should also be processed before sowing. To do this, calcine the soil in the oven for 10-15 minutes at a temperature of 180-200 ° C
Pour the soil into a suitable container and moisten it well. Next, make small grooves, the depth of which should not exceed 1 cm. A distance of 3-4 cm should be kept between each row. Place the seeds at a distance of 1-2 cm from each other and sprinkle them with soil. It is necessary to make a “greenhouse” – cover with earth or polyethylene. Now you need to periodically spray the soil with a spray bottle and keep the greenhouse in a warm place.
As a rule, entries appear on the 4th or 5th day. You can remove the polyethylene after 1-2 weeks. In the future, provide the seedlings with good watering and long daylight hours. You can plant plants in open ground at the end of May.
How to grow strawberry seedlings from seeds?
Sowing should begin at the end of February. But first you need to prepare the seeds. To do this, put some cotton wool on a saucer. Place the seeds on top of it. It is recommended to cover the planting material with another layer of cotton wool, after which you need to fill everything with rain or filtered water. Change the cotton swab every day. Seeds should be soaked for 2-3 days.
You can grow strawberries in any available container. But the best thing is to buy special peat cups
For seedlings, you can prepare the soil mixture yourself. Mix humus, turf and peat in equal proportions and add some sand to them. Do not forget to steam or heat the ground in the oven. Strawberry seeds are planted in moist soil to a depth of 0,5-0,8 cm. A distance of 2 cm should be kept between each future bush. After planting, cover the container with glass or film and place in a warm, well-lit place. Monitor the moisture level of the soil and do not let it dry out. But it is not recommended to allow stagnation of moisture either. As a rule, sprouts hatch within a week.
Even a novice gardener can grow seedlings from seeds. After all, this process is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. It is enough to provide the seeds with optimal conditions, and they will surely please you with strong and viable sprouts.
