How to grow oyster mushrooms at home, video
Oyster mushrooms are useful and easily digestible mushrooms, they can be grown in the country, in the basement or other utility room. The process is not so complicated, but the result is worth it, because these mushrooms can be picked all year round. How to grow oyster mushrooms at home and reap a rich harvest, you will learn in this article.
Oyster mushrooms at home: preparation
The key to successful cultivation of oyster mushrooms is compliance with the following rules:
high quality raw materials;
properly prepared substrate;
the desired light and temperature conditions.
First you need to purchase mycelium in a specialized store or directly from the manufacturer, checking the expiration dates and the integrity of the packaging.
Oyster mushroom can grow on a substrate of wheat or oat straw, buckwheat husk, it develops worse on wood sawdust. If the mycelium is planted outside, they prepare linden, willow, plum and straw logs.
The substrate must be sterile!
To achieve this, it is poured over with boiling water several times, but it is better to boil it in a large container for 5 minutes (this is exactly what experienced manufacturers and mushroom pickers do). After disinfection, the substrate, if it is straw, is crushed, husks and sawdust can be left as they were, but the softer they are, the better.
Next, the substrate is placed in sterile plastic bags, cuts are made in them with a clean knife and mycelium is poured into them, taking into account the consumption indicated on the package.
Some experts recommend sealing the slots for the next 4-5 days.
During this period, it is important to observe the optimal temperature regime – 18-20 degrees and ensure the absence of light. If you decide to get the harvest yourself, a video about oyster mushrooms at home will help you figure out the process.
Growing and collecting oyster mushrooms
During the first 10 days, upon close examination, an overgrown mycelium can be seen in the substrate. From this time on, the oyster mushroom needs lighting.
It is also important to keep the substrate moist. After two to three weeks, the first harvest is possible, and it is better to twist the mushrooms.
The main mistakes at this stage:
waterlogging, which provokes the development of mold, which will destroy the mycelium of the oyster mushroom;
too high a temperature from which the mushroom will burn.
If the oyster mushroom is grown in conditions close to natural, for example, in the country, it is necessary to take into account some peculiarities.
A damp log or stump of deciduous trees is used as the basis for the substrate, which must be disinfected with boiling water.
Holes are made in them, they are filled with a substrate mixed with mycelium. Next, the base is slightly dripped into the ground and tightly covered with 2 layers of polyethylene.
Experts recommend starting growing in this way in mid-May, when the average daily temperature does not drop below +10 degrees. Otherwise, everything is the same as when growing indoors, with the exception of the need for artificial lighting.
It is not difficult to grow oyster mushrooms at home. This is an unpretentious mushroom that bears fruit well until frost for several years. Observing the described rules, even novice mushroom pickers will be able to enjoy good harvests.
