How to glue gypsum tiles on the wall correctly: what kind of glue and can it be on the wallpaper
In houses and apartments, it has become fashionable to lay out walls with decorative tiles that imitate brick. It can be made from any material. Most often, plaster is used for this, because there is an advantage – lightness. Not all people know how to glue gypsum tiles. The answer to this question can be found by studying the information below. For interiors, such wall decoration will be the best option, although gypsum is considered a fragile material.
What glue to glue gypsum tiles on?
One of the main points to consider when laying gypsum tiles is choosing the right adhesive. There are different options here:
- cement glue – it should be designed to work with tiles, but it is quite suitable for other facing coatings;
- gypsum plaster is a white composition and is suitable for interior decoration of an apartment or house;
- silicone based sealant is an interesting solution that can provide reliable adhesion to the surface.
Remember that the adhesive used for gypsum tiles must be fresh. Then everything will hold on.
How to glue gypsum tiles on the wall?
Before you start gluing the plaster elements on the wall, draw up a diagram of their location and stick to it in the future. Then dilute the solution and get down to business.
- Spread some glue on the wall so that it is enough for laying 4 elements.
- Apply mortar to the inside of the tile as well. This will provide a stronger grip.
- Apply the plaster to the wall by pressing it down with your hand. Correct the position of the tile.
- Lay each row, slightly offset by half an element. Then everything will work out according to the scheme.
Do not forget to remove any glue that appears in the seams with a spatula. Rinse off any remaining solution using a clean, wet brush.
Can gypsum tiles be glued to wallpaper?
Without thinking about the consequences, you can stick the facing stone over the wallpaper. However, experimenting here is not recommended. There are 2 types of wallpapers:
- made of paper; if you glue gypsum tiles here, then the solution will soak the canvas, which will then lag behind the wall;
- made of vinyl – this coating is heavy, so it does not need an additional load.
Thus, you can spoil the walls, then repairs will have to be carried out in large volumes. In this case, it is worth trying other finishes that will not lead to such disastrous results.
