How to give birth faster?
Childbirth is a real marathon, we know that. Tips make it possible to make it last a little shorter and to give birth more easily. Zoom on the tips for a faster delivery
Change position
Immobility does not allow an optimal progress of the work because it can lead to numbness and compressions which can slow down or in any case not facilitate the work. Conversely, studies show that movement during childbirth reduces labor time, pain and interventions.
The solution to give birth faster? Change positions.
The different postures that you can adopt are a mechanical aid in childbirth (they help the baby’s progress in the maternal pelvis) but they also facilitate comfort. Examples of positions during work: standing supported on a cushion, sitting on a cushion, sitting astride a chair, sitting with supported arms (on the arms of a chair for example), sitting or kneeling on a ball.
The advantages of different positions during childbirth
The astride position can increase the frequency and intensity of contractions and facilitate the descent of the fetus into the maternal pelvis.
- Sitting increases the pressure of the fetus downward.
- The kneeling position opens the pelvis, gravity directs the fetus in the right direction.
- The lateral position (lying on your side) facilitates the progression of roof work by allowing you to rest!
It is advisable to change position every 15 to 30 minutes during work.
Birth rooms offer accessories that women can hang on, such as bars, hanging ropes, trapezoids.
The pregnancy balloon for a faster delivery
The pregnancy balloon is one of the tools to facilitate childbirth. It allows you to position yourself so as to speed up the work.
The ball allows you to take easier descent of the fetus into the pelvis using gravity. It causes an almost permanent movement of the pelvis without effort! You just need to sit on it. It is also possible to make movements. For example, you can sit on the ball, make circular movements to the left and then to the right.
Walking to facilitate childbirth
Walking makes it possible to use gravity which promotes the engagement and descent of the fetus, the pelvis remaining mobile, and this without increasing the frequency of contractions It is advisable to walk around hanging on to your partner or another member of your family because you can take support during uterine contractions.
Bathing during childbirth: a faster birth
Most of the positions described above can be taken in the bath, plus the relaxing effects of water. In addition, being in a hot bath allows feverish muscle relaxation, which causes the cervix to dilate faster. This explains why the duration of a birth in water is three times faster than that of a traditional air birth.
Some maternity hospitals offer birthing rooms with expansion tubs.
Note: if there is a bathtub, only women with a pregnancy without any problem can spend part of the labor in the bath. If the baby requires constant supervision, this is also impossible.
