It would seem, why get rid of the smell of powder from clothes – it smells nice. But then it turns out to be too much: it smells not only from linen, but the whole apartment smells of some kind of “alpine freshness” or “spring flowers”. But I would like to smell like my favorite perfume, not powder.

How to get rid of the smell of powder after washing

There are several quite working ways.

  • Add at least one extra rinse during washing. If this does not help, then after the end of the wash cycle, turn the laundry on to rinse again.

  • If regular granular powder leaves behind a strong scent, you can try replacing it with a liquid detergent. Such products do not penetrate too deeply into the fabric and are much easier to wash out when rinsing.

  • Concentrated conditioners can be used to rinse off the irritating scent of laundry detergent. They also help to remove the remaining detergent granules deep in the fabric. In addition, the smell of the air conditioner disappears much faster.

  • It is advisable to dry freshly washed linen in the fresh air. The wind will help remove any excess aroma. It is advisable to hang things outside after washing in winter as well. Low temperatures completely remove unnecessary smell, leaving behind only a slight aroma of real frosty freshness. But there are some nuances: experts do not advise drying clothes on the balcony, even if it is glazed.

  • Another recommendation that will help get rid of an obsessive odor is to reduce the rate of powder filling. It is necessary to pour exactly half of the dosage recommended by the manufacturer into the compartment of the washing machine. The laundry is washed just as well, and the smell will become much less intense.

  • You can try to change the manufacturer of the powder – pay attention to eco-products, they are usually not too perfumed.

  • Initially, powders intended for washing children’s clothes are practically odorless. And after a few rinses, the aroma does not remain at all.

  • There are many manufacturers that offer anti-allergenic laundry detergents. As a rule, there are no fragrances in the detergent composition at all.

  • Add baking soda when washing: it perfectly neutralizes odors, and any – both pleasant and not so.

  • Add a little vinegar while rinsing – it does a great job of removing odors too. But the laundry will have to be rinsed additionally to remove the vinegar residues from the fibers.
