How to get rid of bad breath. Video
Bad breath can seriously ruin the impression of communicating with its owner. Depending on the cause of bad breath, you can get rid of it sometimes in a few minutes, and sometimes only after treatment with several specialists.
The most common cause of bad breath is smoking and eating alcohol and some foods, not only well-known onions, garlic, but also, for example, milk, cheese, meat. The proteins contained in the food particles remaining in the mouth are modified by bacteria and become a source of odor. Improper or inadequate oral hygiene will only make the problem worse.
Bad breath often results from diseases of the oral cavity – if you have unhealed tooth decay, periodontitis or periodontal disease – halitosis can become your constant companion. Just one aching tooth can give your breath a bad smell.
Even if all your teeth are healthy, but bad breath poisons your life – consult a therapist, you may need to consult a narrow specialist – a gastroenterologist, otolaryngologist or pulmonologist.
Bad breath often occurs with the following conditions:
- gastritis
- gastric ulcer
- sinusitis
- liver and kidney disease
Sometimes an unpleasant odor occurs as a result of taking certain medications. Women often notice the appearance of a bad smell before menstruation – this is due to fluctuations in hormone levels.
Dehydration and harsh diets can also cause a heavy odor – less saliva is produced in the mouth, which accelerates the growth of bacteria, and the breath of those on low-carb diets often smells like acetone.
If you have no reason to doubt the health of your own teeth, just pay more attention to oral hygiene. It is necessary to clean at least twice a day not only the teeth, but also the tongue and the inner side of the cheeks. Purchase a special tongue scraper at the pharmacy, do not forget to use dental floss, rinse your mouth with special bactericidal elixirs as soon as possible. Usually, they contain extracts of medicinal plants that freshen the breath and destroy bacteria, but by themselves, elixirs will not save you from a bad smell – they can only be used as a supplement. Mouthwash can be done on your own based on herbal decoctions and essential oils.
Brushing your teeth several times during the day is not always possible, so use special sprays, candies (preferably sugar-free) or chewing gum. However, it is also not worth relying on them completely, especially on sprays – they often contain alcohol, which dries the mucous membrane and again causes an unpleasant odor.
Pay attention to your diet. Eat fresh fruits more often, especially apples, try to snack on vegetables, fruits and yogurt, rather than coffee with sandwiches
If you need to freshen your breath and don’t have any chewing gum or a toothbrush on hand, drink some strong tea, chew some fresh parsley leaves or a sprig of dill, eat a slice of apple, or at least just rinse your mouth well with clean water.
