The disturbing data about new people infected with the coronavirus COVID-19 mean that we avoid visiting clinics, even if we would like to check whether we are infected ourselves. However, we have the answer – a coronavirus test to be performed at home. We check not only how it works, but also how to prepare for a nurse’s or nurse’s home visit.
While work on the COVID-19 vaccine is still ongoing, antibody testing is now available. Therefore, if we are at risk or have had contact with an infected person, we may decide to perform the test.
Another indication is the presence of characteristic symptoms – dry cough, shortness of breath, breathing problems or persistent high fever. However, we do not have to leave the house, because the coronavirus test can be carried out at the address indicated by us.
If we decide to conduct a coronavirus test at home, we will definitely gain time. We will not have to travel to the clinic, which is associated with additional stress. We will also not wait in a long line to get to the lab. Usually, to do the tests, we have to get up earlier, postpone work or home duties.
In the case of a coronavirus test to be performed at home, we will avoid not only the stress associated with staying at the clinic, but also the fear of taking blood, which is usually exacerbated in the clinic. We will simply feel safer at home.
Carrying out a coronavirus test at home gives us the opportunity to choose one of five variants:
- The first variant – serological screening tests with the determination of total IgG and IgM antibodies. Thanks to it, antibodies with a low concentration can be detected;
- Second variant – serological screening of IgG and IgA antibodies;
- Third variant – testing for the presence of IgA and IgM antibodies by semi-quantitative method. It can indicate if the patient has been infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus or another virus;
- Fourth variant – testing for the presence of IgG antibodies by semi-quantitative method. The results will show if the patient has been infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus in the past;
- The fifth variant – testing for the presence of IgG and IgM / IgA antibodies. The results will show not only the past infection but also the present one.
On the date booked by us, a qualified nurse will come to us to take blood from us for testing. It is a good idea to press the injection site for about five minutes so that a bruise does not form. The results will be available within 1-2 business days on the dedicated website.
Before the indicated date of the visit at home, it is worth ventilating the apartment – open all windows and doors. A nurse will come to us wearing a protective mask, we should also wear a mask.
We do not have to fast, and it is worth drinking a glass of water half an hour before the test.
Only the patient and the person taking the blood for analysis should be present in the sampling room.
