How to Freeze Milk, Cheese and Eggs Properly

Sometimes it is very difficult not to succumb to general moods with a tinge of mild panic. In addition, stocking up on food, as soon as something happened, is a national Russian trait. But shopping is half the battle. We still need to save the food. And here the freezer will help you in the best way possible. So how to freeze …

…eggs

Not in the shell. Eggs can be broken into silicone molds and frozen whole. But in this case, the yolk will dry out and thicken. To avoid this, you can freeze beaten eggs – just pour them into bags and sign how many eggs are in each. But the best way is to separate the whites and yolks, add a quarter teaspoon of salt for every 8 pieces to the yolks and freeze them separately in plastic bags or containers.

…milk

It can be frozen without any problem. Again, in small portions – the faster the milk freezes, the more likely it will retain its original flavor. In the freezer, the milk will change color – it will become clear and yellow. This is because the fat and liquid in it are separated into different layers. Defrost milk slowly, shaking occasionally to return it uniformity.

Vegetable milk – oat, soy, nut milk – can also be frozen in small portions.

…cheese

It is believed that after freezing cheese turns into garbage. This is true, but only halfway. Soft cheeses will indeed stratify into whey and cottage cheese when frozen and will no longer be cheese after thawing. In addition to mozzarella, she is not afraid of freezing.

But solid mature varieties, in which there is little liquid (Parmesan, for example), freeze perfectly. It is better to divide the cheese into pieces weighing no more than 100 grams, wrap each one tightly, and then put everything together.

The exception is feta and halloumi cheese. They can be stored for a very long time even without freezing.

…cottage cheese

It is better not to turn this trick with store-bought cottage cheese. But with home – quite. If you are confident in the quality of the curd, it can be frozen for up to two months. The best way is to put the curd in a container, leaving about two centimeters from the edges to the lid. Close tightly – and freeze.

…bread

Bread can be frozen in slices or whole. The main thing is to wrap it up properly in order to avoid freezing burns (more on that below). After defrosting a whole loaf or loaf, sprinkle with water and heat in the oven.

Well, yeast or puff pastry only gets better from freezing.
