How you want to please your loved ones and make your holiday perfect and unforgettable! In the hustle and bustle of preparations, it is important not to forget about the little things and think over not only the solemn menu, but also the table setting.
Rules of etiquette
A properly served table provides not only comfort during a festive feast, but also demonstrates knowledge of dining etiquette, which is important for dinner parties and special guests. Consider the order in which the dishes are served and the presence of cutlery on the table. Prepare suitable dishes.
Napkins should be a must-have accessory on any table. It is recommended to offer guests two types of towels: a rag napkin is usually placed on the lap or used as a bib for small children, and soft paper napkins can be used for mouth and hand hygiene.
When you seat guests at the table, make sure that there are always a large number of napkins and towels next to small children, otherwise the child can ruin not only your tablecloth, but also the dress of an important guest
Napkins in a napkin holder
Variations in the beautiful presentation of napkins depend on the type of your napkin holder. The most popular of these is the fan-shaped layout, when each napkin is at the same distance from the other and is located with a sharp corner up. You can diversify this serving with multi-colored napkins, for example, alternating two contrasting colors.
In a flat napkin holder, flowers can be used to create a chess effect. If part of the napkins are folded in half and placed halfway below the first fan row, while alternating between two colors, then the effect of a checkerboard will be created.
For a children’s party, the fan-shaped napkin supply can be played up with a bird figurine. To do this, decorate the center of the napkin holder with a triangular napkin with a beak and eyes painted on it, if possible, glue the legs of the bird below. Thanks to this composition, the fan of napkins will look like a fluffy tail.
If your napkin holder has small round holes, roll the napkins into sharp, thin tubes and insert them into the napkin holder. If you add a drawing with an animal’s face, a paper hedgehog will appear on your table.
If your napkin holder is in the shape of a glass, make a voluminous fan for it. Fold the napkin in an accordion with a fold of 1,5 cm. Lay the napkins one on top of the other and tightly squeeze and roll their base in a fist. The resulting ball can be placed in a glass, and the napkins will hold firmly inside.
Several easy ways to fold bulky napkins
Perhaps the easiest way to beautifully fold a napkin is to make a “birdie” out of it. Fold a square napkin in half to form a rectangle. Bending its corners inward, make an isosceles triangle. By bending the triangle in half, you can achieve its stable shape, that is, already put it on the table.
For special occasions, it is recommended to use not paper napkins, but rag napkins. If you starch them, they will keep their shape better.
An original, but not difficult option, is a napkin-handbag. Fold a rectangular napkin in half vertically, connecting its right side with the left. Do the same with the bottom of the napkin, moving it up. Fold an isosceles triangle from the top of the napkin: fold down two layers of the napkin on the left and one on the right. Lower the resulting triangle down, bringing its sharp corner outside the purse. Fold the triangle from the remaining napkin layer by folding the corners of the rectangle in the same way. Place the second triangle on top of the first, creating a rectangular bag with two top clasps.
Fold the napkin into a starfish. Fold a rectangular napkin with an accordion six times, bending its equal parts. Tuck the free corners of the accordion inward so that you get a trapezoid. Mentally split the folded napkin in half. Working on the left side, fold the third part of the napkin to the middle, and then fold half back to the left edge. Do the same with the right side of the napkin. As a result, the left and right parts of the accordion should connect in the middle and have bent edges to the right and left sides. Raise the upper corners folded in triangles up and straighten. If your napkin is well starched, it will keep the shape of a star.
