How to fit a bedroom, study and living room in a one-room apartment: photo

One-room apartments and studios are the most popular formats in the housing market. The relatively affordable price is definitely their plus. But the area leaves much to be desired. But even in a limited space, you can fit everything you need. How exactly – we deal with the designer.

Founder and head of the interior design studio “Uyutnaya Kvartira”, art critic, gallery owner.

“The development of the Internet and digital professions is gradually reducing the need to be in the office, and more and more people today prefer to work remotely. However, the environment in an average apartment is often not conducive to focused and effective work. But this is not a reason to return to the office: you can create a comfortable workplace even in a small apartment. ”

Zone it immediately

“We were faced with a difficult task – to expand the boundaries of a standard one-room apartment and fit many functional areas on 40 square meters: a kitchen, a bedroom, a living room, an office, a bathroom and a laundry room, while not forgetting to equip enough storage space,” says Natalya.

Bare walls before and a cozy office after

Wet areas remained in their places, they cannot be transferred legally. But in favor of ergonomics, it was necessary to abandon the wall between the kitchen and the room, which featured in the layout from the developer.

Due to this solution, the apartment became lighter and more spacious, but it was important to zone the resulting studio space as efficiently as possible. Therefore, the kitchen and living room were visually separated using furniture – a bar counter was installed behind the sofa. The brightest place was allocated for the working area – the space by the window in the living room, using a wide window sill as a table top. And the sleeping area is comfortably located in the back of the apartment, on the podium in a niche separated from the living room by slats.

Colors and materials

To make it equally easy in the apartment to concentrate on work and relax after a hard day, it is better to choose a calm monochrome palette. At the same time, different functional spaces can be distinguished using the color of the walls, choosing shades of different saturation. Paints for the walls will help you decide which tone is best for the lighting in each area. At the same time, the materials of furniture and finishes should overlap with each other so that the space does not seem fragmented.

“Our project has a lot of wooden elements: the floor is made of an engineered board, which was also used to decorate the head of the bed,” explains Natalia Preobrazhenskaya.

The kitchen fronts, the finishing of the working area and the porcelain stoneware in the shower room are also matched to the tone of the main floor.

Personal Area. Focus on lighting

You can find a corner for creating a home office in any apartment. If there is no separate room for an office, it can be equipped in a niche or on an insulated loggia, but perhaps the most versatile option that can be implemented in any room is to place the working area by the window. So we open a visual view to the person sitting at the table: it is very important to be able to rest your eyes and switch from the computer screen to the view outside the window. Plus, in this way, we get rid of the effect of a closed space and provide constant access to sunlight directly to the workplace.

For example, in our project, the home office was organized by the window in the living room, where you can work at the table on the computer, and move to the sofa during telephone conversations. To visually highlight the mini-cabinet, the window sill, ceiling and slopes were sheathed with wooden panels. Sockets and additional spotlights were built into the resulting frame to make it comfortable to work on long winter evenings.

Bedroom. Nest on the podium

A good rest is a guarantee of high efficiency, so it is better to allocate a place for the bedroom away from the kitchen and the front door. This placement of the bed will psychologically help you feel safer and relax while falling asleep.

In studios and one-room apartments, where both the study and the bedroom are in the same room, it is important to distinguish between the recreation area and the workspace. For example, visually, a sleeping place can be distinguished in height and placed on a podium with built-in drawers for bed linen, blankets and other things. A partition made of thin wooden slats, slats, will help hide the bed from bright sunlight and visually separate the bedroom from the work area.

Bathroom: space and functionality

In modern new buildings, the smallest area is undeservedly allocated for the bathroom, and this is where we start the day every morning. To make the cramped bathroom look more spacious and comfortable, we decided to use large mirrors and a light finish with a glossy surface. For example, tiles with a marbled pattern look especially exquisite. Hanging furniture and plumbing will free up additional space in the bathroom and visually increase its area.

The shower room can be zoned with a glass partition, and the walls and floor can be accentuated with contrasting finishes or accent tiles. We used porcelain stoneware with a dark wood look, which is indistinguishable from a natural board. Combined with white marble walls, the impression is that you are simultaneously in a real wooden sauna and an oriental hammam.

There was even a place for a laundry room: a washing machine was successfully fitted into the niche under the sink, and the drying chamber was hidden in a closet.
