Fishing for boilies, especially in recent years, has become widespread. Boilies are especially used by carp fishermen, since boilies help to outwit such fish as carp, and carp are impressive in size. Boilies are used by both experienced anglers and beginners.
What are boilies?
Now almost any fisherman knows what boilies are. Boilies appeared in the 80s of the last century. This term belongs to a special type of bait, which is distinguished by either a round or cylindrical shape, but, in general, boilies are in the form of balls, of various diameters and different colors.
This type of bait is made from various components, which makes it a universal bait. Many, especially experienced anglers, make them on their own, although everyone can do this process. Basically, a dough made from semolina, cornmeal, eggs and other ingredients is used: there can be a lot of them so that the bait is nutritious and the fish does not refuse it.
As a rule, boilies are not used for catching small fish, as their diameter can reach 1,5 cm or more, although it is not a problem to make mini boilies to catch smaller fish.

The main types of boilies
There are several varieties of such bait, depending on the conditions of fishing. Boilies, as mentioned above, differ in size, smell and buoyancy.
Depending on the size, they are:
- Mini tall. Not more than 1,5 cm in diameter. Such baits are called mini boilies. With the help of mini boilies, you can catch the largest number of fish. Since fish, especially large ones, behave quite cautiously, they first of all try food objects of small sizes. With balls of this size, it is easier to cast tackle, and all components remain fresh for a long time, which attracts fish. With the help of such boilies they catch crucian carp and small carps. To catch a trophy specimen, you will have to opt for larger boilies.
- Large. More than 1,5 cm in diameter. Such boilies are classified as large. Used when catching large carp and carp. Such bait is too tough for small fish. Large boilies quickly lose their attraction factors for fish. In this regard, it is better to use them immediately.
Fish are mainly attracted by the smell of boilies, so they are classified according to the type of flavor that is used in their manufacture. Boilies are:
- With a fishy scent. Such bait is made on the basis of fishmeal.
- With berry flavor like cherry, strawberry, raspberry, etc.
- With other flavors like chocolate, honey, anise, vanilla, etc.
On a note! You should choose the smell of boilies so that it differs markedly from the smell of bait.
According to the degree of buoyancy boilies are:
- Floating. Such baits are used when the bottom of the reservoir is too silty and the bait can be lost in it. Floating boilies are above the bottom surface, and the hook can hide in the mud.
- drowning boilies are suitable for catching fish when the ground is hard. The peculiarity of the carp is that it feeds from the bottom. Free-swimming bait can scare away these wary fish.
Need to know! Boilies are selected taking into account specific fishing conditions. It is important to know the nature of the reservoir, as well as the type of fish that is supposed to be caught.

How to make boilies with your own hands?
Making boilies at home is not at all difficult, especially if you purchase all the ingredients. To make them you will need:
- Corn chop.
- Chicken eggs in the amount of 5 pieces.
- Manka
- Sunflower seeds minced in a meat grinder.
- Flavours.
From the above listed components, both mini boilies and large boilies are prepared. An ordinary glass is used as a measuring element.
What to do:
- A glass of semolina and half a glass of corn chips are poured into a deep container, adding half a glass of seeds crushed together with the peel. All ingredients are well mixed.
- After mixing the ingredients, flavoring is also added here. The amount of this component depends on when you plan to fish: if in the summer, then a fifth of a glass is enough, and if in the fall, you will have to add half a glass.
- At this stage, eggs are beaten using a blender or a regular whisk.
- Eggs are not added to the prepared components in large portions, otherwise lumps may form. Thus, the dough is kneaded. The consistency of the dough is brought back to normal with the help of cereals or water if it is too steep or too liquid.
After preparing the dough, proceed to the formation of boilies. If you plan to make large boilies, then you can roll them up with your hands, and if mini boilies are being prepared, then you can use a syringe, for example. At the same time, you can roll small balls or squeeze out the dough with a sausage, and then this sausage is cut into several parts. If boilies are prepared by hand, then before that it is better to grease them with vegetable oil, otherwise the dough will stick to your hands.
As the balls are formed, proceed to boil boilies. To do this, you need to take a metal sieve and put the boilies on it, after which the bait is lowered into boiling water. As soon as the balls begin to float, they are removed.
At the end of the process, the boilies are dried by laying them out on paper. In this case, you need to make sure that they do not touch each other.
It should be noted that there are many recipes for cooking. Floating boilies can also be easily prepared at home if you stock up on 200 g of fish meal, 100 g of rice flour, 50 g of germinated wheat and 80 g of bran.
For the strength of boilies, honey is used, and the manufacturing process is the same as in the previous case. You should also know that boilies on tackle are baited in a special way.

Preparation of dusty boilies
Dusty boilies are prepared according to their own technology, which does not require cooking. After entering the water, they leave behind a muddy trail that attracts fish. For cooking you will need:
- Flax seeds – 30 g.
- Corn flour – 30 g.
- Ground buckwheat – 50 g.
- Semolina – 20 g.
- Honey or thick sugar syrup – 50 g.
A thick dough is kneaded from such components, after which balls of the required size roll. After that, the boilies are laid out on paper and left to dry.
After that, you can go fishing. All types of boilies are mounted in the same way, both floating and dusting boilies are no exception. Dusty boilies quickly dissolve in water, attracting fish.
If you make boilies yourself, then it is practical, and most importantly, it is profitable. The components are not scarce and can be found in the kitchen of any housewife. It does not require special skills and abilities. When making such baits on your own, you can stop at one recipe, as a more catchy one.

How to plant?
Of course, boilies are not maggots, not corn, not barley, not worms, so boilies are planted using a special technology. The ball is not mounted on the hook itself, this is the main difference. This installation is called hair. Previously, a special hair was used, which is why it is called hair, but nowadays fishing line is intended for this purpose. Therefore, hair montage consists of the following components:
- Special hook, with a long shank.
- Lead material.
- Thin silicone tube.
Installation consists of the following steps: first, about 20 cm of fishing line is cut off and a loop is formed at the end, after which a straight knot with three turns is knitted and a silicone tube is pulled over the fishing line. After that, a hook is knitted to the fishing line in the usual way. The leash on the hook is fixed with a silicone tube. The hook is tied with a secure knot so that the fish cannot tear it off.
Putting a boilie on a fishing line, first make a hole in it with a thin needle. A loop is inserted into this hole and fixed with a silicone stopper.
As a rule, such installation can take the angler no more than 5 minutes, after several training sessions.

How to fish with boilies
Fishing with boilies differs in its own characteristics, compared with catching fish with a regular bait. Since you have to make long casts, you need to arm yourself with a rod about 5 meters long. About 100 meters of fishing line, with a diameter of 0,25 mm, with a leash 0,2 mm thick, is wound on a reel, and a powerful one. The float should be heavy and weigh between 2 and 8 grams. The float is mounted in a sliding way.
The main thing is to securely tie the hook, since carp are considered strong fish. If there are no such skills, then it is better to turn to an experienced angler. There is no way to relax. Carp are caught on boilies with a diameter of about 16 mm, and for catching crucian carp, you need to take smaller boilies.
Naturally, the success of fishing will depend on the quality of boilies and their attractiveness to fish. Over time, it will be possible to determine which boilies are more catchy and which are not. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the fishing season. Closer to autumn, when the water cools down, the fish feeds more on food of animal origin.
The color of the bait is no less important, so you need to prepare boilies of various bright colors. To do this, food coloring is added to the dough. The color of boilies for fishing may also depend on the transparency of the water. If the water is clear, boilies of white, light green or pink colors will go, and if the water is cloudy, then brighter shades should be preferred.
Carp is a wild carp, so catching it with boilies is no different from catching an ordinary carp. It should also be remembered that without bait you should not count on a serious catch. For greater effect, ingredients that are present in the boilies are added to the bait.
If you approach the matter with all responsibility, then there is nothing complicated in making boilies with your own hands, and the components are not at all scarce. In any case, it will cost much less than if you buy boilies in a store, and the effect can be the same. In addition, you can make baits yourself with the addition of various components, which cannot be said about purchased boilies, although their choice is huge.
Carp fishing for boilies is a very exciting activity, since only large specimens are caught. Naturally, for such fishing you need to prepare properly. Tackle must be strong and reliable.
For carp fishing, feeder or bottom tackle is increasingly used. This method of fishing is more optimal, since the carp feeds from the bottom.
