Dissatisfaction with one’s own life and loss of faith in oneself can drive a person into a corner. To prevent this from happening, you need to quickly decide on changes. And to begin with, to discern potential talents in yourself and give them free rein. How exactly to do it?
If you are looking for a business in which you could be realized with pleasure, it will not be out of place to do an exercise called “In Search of Happiness”.
It is best performed in solitude, as it is quite difficult to reveal our talents in a group – often we begin to “cling” to other people’s ideas without even noticing it.
Also, this exercise should be done in a healthy, resourceful state, when there is no resentment and anxiety in the soul. Approach the performance absolutely calmly and relaxed. Ideal if you are on vacation or in nature.
You can practice both visualization techniques and writing, depending on your preferences. So, retire, turn on your favorite music, get into a pleasant but even state, and do the following:
● Create situations in your imagination in which you are truly happy. Figure out where you are, what you are doing, who is around you? Maybe you sing on stage and the audience applauds you? Or are you a runway model?
No matter how old you are, how you look and what you know today, imagine that everything is possible!
Moreover, in our time this is true: vocal classes, schools of models 30+ and even 60+, intuitive drawing lessons are no longer fantasies of the future, but an absolute reality with many opportunities for adults.
● Ask yourself: What activities bring you joy? Where, in what conditions do you feel fulfilled as a highly qualified specialist? Maybe it’s an exhibition of your paintings where you give interviews? Or are you surrounded by your family, you have a holiday, and you admire the interior of the house you created?
It is important to think through to the smallest detail all the circumstances of your dream life: where you are and what you are doing, who you want to be.
● Listen to yourself. If you are doing the exercise correctly, you should not have thoughts “I just sit and enjoy, relax.” When a person does not want to do anything, this is a state of depression and weakness. This is death. No healthy living organism wants death, it wants to move on.
Movement is development. During the exercise, there should be a desire to want to act and create.
● Ask yourself the question: what is your success? Here you need to immerse yourself in a light semi-meditative state and imagine the most daring scenarios for the development of events. For example, you are raising factories from ruins, saving whales or restoring embroidery designs on gold – imagine yourself in absolutely any kind of activity.
From the depths of memory, something may emerge that you looked at with admiration and in which you even envied other people. Give yourself complete freedom.
As you progress through practice, the voice of your grandmother that has arisen in your head (“Where are you, so clumsy, to ballet!”) Or the words of your mother (“Get a higher education, and then live as you want”) may interfere with you, often your own doubts strengthen your barriers. These inhibitory settings also need to be fixed in order to work with them later.
● Remember your childhood. There will be hints. What was easy and fun? What lessons or activities were you most interested in (football, pranks, writing or solving complex math problems)? Most likely, this is the area where you can express yourself best.
● Think about what people want in you. What do you do more beautifully, better, better than others, but belittle your skills? What are you praised and thanked for? Don’t be modest. Assess yourself objectively and lovingly.
Perhaps it’s cooking, space design, or maybe you write catchy texts with humor that friends send to each other?
Summing up
After you have answered all the questions, start the analysis. Often at this moment real insights come: “But it’s true, once I wanted to do just that, even a few years ago there was such an offer, but because of fear I didn’t dare …”
The criterion for the fact that you have found “the one” is that you experience an energy boost, you want to continue developing this thought or even immediately take action.
Of course, not everything can be realized: at the age of 50, you are unlikely to be able to start dancing at the Bolshoi Theater. But you can always take the adjacent path. For example, go to classical dance classes, develop in this direction and become a coach or arrange dance evenings for other people.
I know a woman who started practicing yoga at 56, and at 60 achieved such results that she was already teaching herself. She showed photos where she was 55 – a woman tired of life with an extinct look and overweight, and 60 – confident, radiant and fresh. And there are many such examples!
It’s never too late to make your life full. But the sooner you do it, the more pleasure you will get!
