How to find a common language with a difficult teenager – son or daughter

After the birth of a child, parents dream that he will grow up – then it will be easier. But with age, new problems appear. In the period of 11-12 years, children often withdraw into themselves, do not communicate with their parents, or much worse – they begin to be insolent to them and do everything in spite of them. Therefore, it is important to know how to find a common language with a teenager.

Why is it difficult to deal with a difficult teenager

“Will outgrow”, parents think. But in fact, in adolescence, a child needs care and support, otherwise he will remain insecure for the rest of his life. Even if it is difficult to communicate with a teenager, you should not be angry with him.

To find a common language with a teenager, you need to take into account a number of rules.

Changes in behavior at the age of 11-12 are associated with the following reasons:

  • There is a hormonal change in the body, which leads to serious changes in the psyche. From a psychological point of view, mood swings are considered normal for a teenager.
  • Physical changes are taking place. The boy develops hair on his body, his voice coarsens, he becomes more masculine. The girl’s mammary glands become enlarged, her period begins. Sometimes children are not ready for such changes, so they withdraw into themselves.
  • First love arises. Children may have experienced sympathy and love earlier, but in adolescence they are faced with a new feeling. Lack of reciprocity can also negatively affect the child.

During this difficult period for children, adults should try to find a common language with them. You should not scold the child, even if it seems that he has become unbearable.

How to communicate correctly with a son and daughter 11-14 years old

To communicate correctly with a teenager, you need to follow a number of rules:

  • An adult relationship should be built. Now he is no longer a child, so excessive lisping and guardianship can cause protest from him.
  • You cannot compare him with his peers. Each person is a personality that is characterized by individual qualities and character traits.
  • You should not shout and scold the child. This is pointless, as it can provoke even more aggression.
  • You need to consult with your child. Children need to understand that their opinions are taken into account. Moreover, in many areas they are “more advanced” than their parents.

The child must understand that adults are on his side, even if he is wrong.

Therefore, it is important to find an approach to the teenager. This period will not last long, but if you spoil the relationship now, it will be difficult to restore them in the future.
