How to fall asleep quickly; causes of insomnia
Having trouble falling asleep for a long time or suffering from disturbing dreams? Take a look around: maybe the reason lies in the decor of your bedroom?
Aromatherapy is believed to be relaxing, calming and, as a result, helping to fall asleep, however, not all pleasant-smelling substances have a hypnotic effect. For example, jasmine irritates the nervous system, which deprives you of sleep, grapefruit makes a restless night’s rest, and lemon invigorates and therefore is recommended only in the morning. Fans of aromatic sessions before going to bed should turn to the smells of lavender, vanilla, linden, lemon balm and mint: according to experts, the aromas have an extremely beneficial effect for falling asleep. Moreover, fragrant geranium flowers will relieve even the smallest night owls from nightmares.
It would seem that the obvious reason – the lantern shining through the window, making immersion in the night darkness in the bedroom impossible, is not as simple as it seems at first glance. It is the thin curtains that let in external light that become the worst enemy of sleep, because the production of the hormone melatonin, which is responsible for sleep, directly depends on the level of illumination of the room. So the tighter the curtains, the better the sleep.
Bright screens of gadgets, computers, TVs
When getting ready for bed, it’s best to turn off your electronics or replace watching TV with listening to good music. Yes, the temptation to fall asleep near the TV is great, but in this case, no one can guarantee a good sleep. A bright smartphone screen is no exception. However, newfangled phones are fraught with another danger. We all love gadgets for the opportunity to read the news, but, you must admit, information does not always contain a positive message. It is better to put your smartphone aside, until the morning important news will definitely not run away from you, which cannot be said about sleep.
Remember the tale of The Princess and the Pea? If a small pea under countless feather beds can ruin your sleep, then what about uncomfortable bedding? For example, duvet covers should never be made of polyester – this material does not breathe, which is fraught with overheating during sleep. There are disputes about the color of sheets and pillowcases between representatives of various spiritual practices, psychologists and somnologists. However, in this matter, in our opinion, you need to be guided by your tastes: it is unlikely that you will be pleasant to sleep on red linen if you are a lover of cold tones, and vice versa.
Sleep is not a reason to show off. Pajamas by no means have to be haute couture, beauty plays the last role here. Whether it’s a shirt from a fancy store or an old T-shirt of a husband, a sleeping outfit should first of all be comfortable so that no extra strap interferes with your night’s rest. In the end, remember the words of all the grandmothers: “You are not going to the ball.”
We have already mentioned the dangers of overheating for sleeping, now let’s talk about it in more detail. All experts are convinced: the temperature in the bedroom should not exceed 24 degrees Celsius. Even lovers of warmth and comfort will sleep better in the cool, so instead of putting a heater in the bedroom, cover yourself with an extra blanket and open the window. During the night, the body will be saturated with oxygen and will thank you cheerfully the next morning.
In everyday life, few people notice the ticking of a clock, so we can not always understand where this annoying sound comes from, which interferes with falling asleep. Moreover, the ticking can follow even in rooms without a huge grandfather clock: look at your hand. During a working day, we get so used to this accessory that we forget about it, but the intermittent sound will make us forget about sleep as well. Interestingly, not all noise sources are banned. For example, a blow of wind simulated by a fan, according to experts, only strengthens our sleep.
We love our four-legged friends so much that we even take them to bed with us. You can play with your kitty between countless attempts to sleep, without even knowing that she is the cause of insomnia. Sitting on the bed somehow, so as not to disturb the rest of the pet, we sacrifice our sleep. Moreover, according to feng shui, even a fish tank in the bedroom is harmful to energy.
Hanging your walls with pictures or posters? Avoid the area above the head of the bed. Recently, all kinds of art installations have become a fashionable design solution, but esoteric traditions say: no images above the sleeping person’s head. Of the decor items, only the Indian talisman Dreamcatcher is allowed, in the web of which nightmares are entangled.
We feel good when loved ones are around, so we try to keep their photos with us at all times. They lift our spirits and help us cope with separation, but they deprive us of sleep. Yes, yes, if you believe all the same feng shui, family photos are one of the reasons for insomnia.
Reading before bed is a good habit, especially for those who cannot find time for a page or two in a day. But don’t turn your bedroom into a library. Even if you are not fond of oriental practices, think for yourself: books, with all their positive features, are typical dust collectors, so it is better not to keep all the volumes of Pushkin or Dontsova in the night recreation area.
If geranium strengthens your sleep with its aroma, then loach plants, on the contrary, interfere with your dreams. No matter how beautiful and fashionable it is, the green wall takes away your positive energy, which, according to feng shui, leads to insomnia.
It is believed that money is the dirtiest thing in our everyday life. And for a reason: who knows how many people held these 50 rubles in their hands before you. But it’s not just bacteria, imagine how many other people’s negative emotions are invested in bills. It is clear that in life there is nowhere without cash, but it is better not to keep money in the bedroom. Move your piggy bank or safe to your office and you will sleep better.
In all spiritual practices, it is strictly forbidden to keep a mirror near the bed. According to feng shui, a mirror reflects the negative energy of a person, which goes out during sleep, back to the sleeping person. And in the Russian tradition, it is believed that a mirror is a passage to another world, and in a dream a person is more helpless than ever before the evil spirits lurking in the looking glass. Even psychologists say that an accidental reflection seen in half-asleep, thanks to the imagination, can seem like a terrible monster, after meeting with which a night’s rest will be impossible. It is considered especially dangerous to keep a mirror in the bedrooms of children – the most vulnerable in the psychological and esoteric sense.
These, of course, are not objects or things, but the color of the walls and ceiling affects our mood, well-being and sleep. And psychologists, and esotericists, and therapists unanimously repeat: the color of the wallpaper in the rest room should be cold. It is best to use blue or green shades. Feng Shui also recommends choosing one color for walls and ceilings. Maybe it is in the monochromatic bedroom that the secret of sound sleep?
