How to equip the kitchen in the studio and separate it from the room
There is not much space, you can’t put a door, but you want the kitchen to be nice, comfortable and to be somehow separated from the living space. And also so that the whole apartment does not smell of food.

“The kitchen is one of the most difficult spaces in terms of furnishing. This is a functional area where you need to combine engineering communications, storage systems, household appliances, an ergonomic workspace, beauty, comfort and practicality. This is a really difficult, but very interesting task. ”
Step 1. Who, how much and why
For some, the kitchen is the heart of the house, but for others it is the place where you grab a cup of coffee 10 minutes before going to work. The kitchens of an avid bachelor, a young couple, or a family with children differ from each other as much as their owners. Someone needs a bar counter, while someone needs a large table at which the company regularly gathers. For some, a must-have is a coffee machine, for others it is vitally important to place a steamer, airfryer and a large refrigerator. The great thing about studio apartments is that you are not limited by walls. Your individual needs will tell you how much space you need to set aside for the kitchen to feel comfortable in it.
Step 2. Divide the space
The separation can be visual or physical.
Visual zoning makes the kitchen more spacious, as it does not limit its space. The border can be marked with a contrasting, different color of the floor or wall covering. In this case, the kitchen remains part of the rest of the apartment.
However, this zoning has its drawbacks. It will be difficult to retire in a completely open space. Another nuance that should be taken into account is smells. They will also become a permanent part of the rest of the room, if you do not do the cleaning right away. You definitely need a powerful hood, otherwise you will fall asleep and wake up with the smells of not only coffee, but also yesterday’s steak. Over time, the smell eats into upholstery and textiles, which means frequent cleaning and washing. And the smell of food from clothes instantly gives out a studio dweller in a person.
Physical zoning does not necessarily imply walling. Also, the border can be marked using a bar counter, island, sofa, shelving or just a dining table. Another great option is to use textiles (ceiling cassette systems of roller blinds, cotton curtains or classic ones from fabrics of different density and texture).
Step 3. Determine the technique
What technique do you need, which one will you really use? Think over an approximate layout, then it will be easier to foresee and bring all the necessary communications in the right places. Give preference to built-in appliances. This helps to organize the space as efficiently as possible, to save space.
Think only about how comfortable it will be for you. If you are comfortable with two burners, do not install a stove with four. If there is very little space, but the kitchen needs both an oven and a microwave, pick up a 2 in 1 appliance. Make the kitchen comfortable without thinking about the usual solutions.
Step 4. Choosing a design
Now that you have already decided on the most important questions, what kind of kitchen you have and what you want to see on it, it’s time to pay attention to design.
For small apartments, it is preferable to maintain the color scheme. Choose colors of the same scale. Light ones visually increase the space and fill the kitchen and the whole apartment with air. Neutral tones and bright accents are best suited to showcase your personality and taste. Make sure that the colors in the kitchen continue with the living room – for example, the color of the backsplash matches or repeats on cushions or armchairs. Larger apartments can use contrasting colors and add interesting accents. But in any case, it is advisable to maintain a single style direction for the entire apartment.
The atmosphere of a country house, minimalism, loft, ethno, timeless classics or fusion? Imagine the perfect space to tune in for a good day and find peace in the evening. And try to design it yourself!
Special online constructors allow you to independently create a project for your ideal kitchen and calculate the approximate cost. You can even visit the interior in advance: for example, there is a 3D configurator in the “Kitchen” section of the “Leroy Merlin ZIL” store. It collects the entire kitchen: from finishing materials to furniture and household appliances. With the help of a VR headset, you find yourself inside your project and can understand how it fits your ideal.
Step 5. Selecting accessories
It is advisable not to overload the kitchen in the studio with trifles. This does not mean that accessories should be completely abandoned. Match accessories in the same style. Every little thing should fit into the space and be as comfortable as possible. Containers for storing bulk products, a detergent dispenser, cutting boards, knife holders, dish dryers, towels, curtains and tablecloths, as well as kitchen utensils will help to create a beautiful and functional kitchen.
Matching accessories may seem like a simple process, but in reality, matching the little things can be challenging. There are ready-made solutions for this case. Many retailers offer pre-selected and matched interior details. Take them as a basis, and then over time you will add interesting finds to the interior.
Creating a dream kitchen is not an easy task, but it is truly interesting and creative task. Do not be afraid, get inspired, read, study – and you will cope with everything. Now you are creating only for yourself, so that later this kitchen will delight you every day for many years.
