How to enter the character “/” (slash) in Excel cells

By default, pressing the “/” (slash) character key will display key tips for calling menu ribbon commands in Excel. But what if you need to enter this character in a cell? There is a way to change the settings and make it so that pressing the key with the “/” symbol enters the corresponding character in the cell.

Translator’s Note: In fact, the author of the article does not finish speaking a little. KeyTips are only displayed if you press the given key simply while the cell is selected (i.e. without the cursor blinking inside). If you try to enter “/” with a blinking cursor, then everything works fine. However, the information presented in this article will be useful for you to know.

So, to disable the activation of key prompts for calling menu ribbon commands when you press the key with the “/” symbol, go to the tab File (Queue).

In the menu on the left, click Parameters (Options).

On the left side of the dialog box Excel options (Excel Options) click Additionally (Advanced).

In the parameter group Lotus Compatibility (Lotus compatibility) in a field Microsoft Excel Menu Key (Microsoft Excel menu key) change the character to any other, such as tilde (~) or grave (`). In general, select a symbol that you do not use in working with cells.

Press OKto save changes and close the dialog Excel options (Excel Options).

Now you can safely enter the “/” symbol in the cells of your sheet.

At the same time, the character you entered in the field Microsoft Excel Menu Key (Microsoft Excel menu key), now it will not work to enter into the cell.
