How to dye wool; how to dye wool in boots
If you want to change the color of woolen fabric or yarn, felting material or fur, it is worth figuring out how to dye the wool. Using natural or chemical dyes, it is easy to achieve the desired result.
Any method of changing the color, both natural and chemical, degrades the quality of the fiber. When boiled, it becomes hard, brittle and tangled. If you cannot do without the procedure, give preference to natural dyes.
Knowing how to dye wool, you will not spend a lot of time and effort on it.
To achieve a good result, follow the recommendations:
- first, always try the dye composition on a small and inconspicuous piece of fabric;
- if you are performing the operation for the first time, do not experiment – give preference to one-color staining;
- to get a brighter color, increase the amount of dye;
- to fix the shade and give brightness, add a little mordant to the composition;
- after the procedure, comb the coat with a carder or a dog’s comb.
Natural dyes can be used to obtain different colors. So, elderberry and wolfberry give a red hue, green – spinach and juniper, blue – blueberries and blackberries, brick – onion peel, brown – basma, yellow – wormwood and nettle. By experimenting with these substances, you can get interesting and unusual color solutions.
Algorithm for dyeing wool with natural means
If you are using a natural remedy, prepare a solution. Place the color product used in water, bring to a boil and wait for it to color. Drain the liquid into the container where the procedure will take place, and put the saucepan back on the fire. Repeat this operation until the water is completely discolored.
Place the wool in the prepared solution and put on low heat for 1,5-2 hours. Wait until the product acquires the desired shade, remove it and let cool.
The cold fiber should be rinsed with running water until it ceases to emit excess paint, and dried naturally away from heating appliances and sunlight.
