How to dye fabric. Video Tips
Often, the shades of fabric that can be found in the store are not enough for various types of needlework. This does not mean that the creative process of creating a small handmade masterpiece is limited to the palette of industrial production. The fabric can also be dyed at home. In this case, the number of shades is limited only by your desire.
Two types of dyes are used to dye fabrics, yarns and other materials used in home handicrafts: natural and artificial. Natural or natural dyes are obtained from plant and animal products. Artificial or chemical dyes are made from aniline and are sold ready-made in a huge variety of colors and shades.
Staining with natural dyes
Natural dyes are most often used to dye the fabric from which the bodies of various dolls are sewn, for example, tilde. Their shade can be easily reproduced with the help of food, and the very philosophy of creating these dolls involves the use of the most natural, natural materials.
So, to get a light tan on a white fabric, it can be dyed with tea. To do this, you need to firmly brew black tea and lower the cloth in the hot solution for 15-20 minutes. Stir the fabric from time to time to keep the tone evenly. After that, the fabric should be wrung out, well straightened on a horizontal surface and dried.
For strength, you can add a teaspoon of baking soda to the solution.
By the same principle, black coffee can be used as natural colorants (it is better to buy the cheapest instant coffee, it gives the most persistent and bright color), onion peels, wine, natural vegetable and fruit juices. Iodine and potassium permanganate are also suitable for staining at home. The saturation of the hue is adjusted by changing the concentration of the solution. When using as a tea colorant, experiment with different brands of tea as you get different shades each time.
Staining with artificial dyes
Today, acrylic paints for batik and other fabrics of various shades are presented for sale. They can be used alone or mixed to get the desired result. In each case, the proportions of the paint and the concentration of the solution are selected individually, it also depends on the structure of the fibers of the fabric. For staining, a solution is prepared, where the fabric is lowered for 10 minutes, after which it must be rinsed in cold water, spread on a horizontal surface and left to dry completely.
Do not dry the fabric by hanging it on a rope, otherwise the staining will turn out to be uneven.
There are also several nuances that must be taken into account when staining. So, before you start dyeing the entire canvas, try the method on a separate piece of fabric. Keep in mind that natural fiber fabrics dye faster and richer than synthetic fabrics. If you plan to wash the product in the future, you should fix the result after staining with a special factory color fixer. Plus, it will prevent fabric color from fading over time.
