Dried figs are an unusually tasty and healthy delicacy. You can buy it ready-made in the store. But it’s much more pleasant to make a dessert with your own hands. If you know how to dry figs at home, you can prepare a real delicacy for the winter.

How to dry figs in the oven?

It is easier and faster to cook dried figs using the oven. Rinse it thoroughly, cut off all damaged parts. Wipe off the figs with paper towels. Further processing can be divided into several stages:

  • Preheat the oven to 60 degrees. You cannot exceed this figure, since at a higher temperature, the figs will not be dried, but baked.
  • Cut the figs into halves.
  • Prepare a baking sheet with ventilation holes. The grill is also perfect for these purposes. Arrange the fruit slices on a baking sheet.
  • Place the baking sheet with the figs in the oven. Open the door slightly so that excess moisture can escape.
  • Periodically, the pieces will need to be turned over. So they should dry for at least 8 hours.

You can determine the readiness of a fig by its appearance. Its top should look leathery and tight. After cutting the piece, no juice should be released.

Divide the finished treat into containers and cover with a lid. You need to store it in the refrigerator. The shelf life of such a product can be up to two years.

How to dry figs in the sun?

A longer way to cook figs is to dry them outdoors. To do this, you must observe the following sequence of actions:

  1. Place the washed and chopped figs on a baking sheet or wire rack. It is best to cover the bottom of the baking sheet with clean gauze. Putting the fruit must be cut up.
  2. Cover the figs with cheesecloth on top. This will prevent insects from feasting on the fruit. Secure the cheesecloth to the baking sheet with tape around the edges.
  3. Place the container of figs in a sunny location. Make sure the fruit is in direct sunlight.

This drying will take two to three days. The pieces of fruit will need to be turned over every morning. This will allow them to dry out evenly. If the figs are still sticky after three days, dry them in the oven.
