Autumn has come – it’s time to stock up on supplies. And you have already made a plan – to dry some of the products, for example, the harvest of chokeberry. But how to do it right? Below we will look at how to dry chokeberry in order to maximize its benefits.

If you have a dedicated electric dryer, the task becomes incredibly easy. All you need to do is:

  • put the washed and dried berries in one layer in the bowls of the device;
  • set the temperature to 50 degrees and dry for about three hours;
  • then reduce the heat to 45 degrees and keep the berries until tender.

The end of drying is determined by the state of the mountain ash – if there are no traces of juice left when pressed, then you can put the product in a storage container.

If there is no miracle device, but you want to do everything faster, then use another kitchen unit. So, how to dry mountain ash in the oven:

  • berries are thinly laid out on a baking sheet;
  • the oven is heated to 40 degrees, the mountain ash is placed there and left for half an hour;
  • increase the heating to 60 degrees and keep the chokeberry until completely dry.

Allow the product to cool and arrange in containers.

How to dry mountain ash naturally

If you are not in a hurry to dry berries, then you can use simple, but more time-consuming methods. For example, chokeberry berries can be laid out on trays in one layer and placed in the open air so that the sun warms them up. At night, the berries should be brought indoors to protect them from dampness and periodically turn them over during the drying process.

If the air outside is not clean – there is a lot of dust, exhaust gases or other pollutants, then you can string the tassels of berries on strings and hang them indoors (for example, in the attic or in the pantry). The place should be ventilated and give access to sunlight. Gradually, the mountain ash will dry completely.

To get more benefit,

  • collect mountain ash after the start of frost;
  • remove all spoiled berries and rinse the rest thoroughly;
  • during drying, watch the color of the fruit – the appearance of reddish or brown shades indicates the wrong temperature of the process.

Berries are stored in a glass (plastic) container, the lid of which should be twisted.

Drying chokeberry is easy. If properly prepared, it can be stored for about eight months. Thanks to this, you will be able to receive natural vitamins throughout the winter.
