Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur made from lemon peel, alcohol, water and sugar. What am I telling you, because in the last article we figured out how to prepare this wonderful drink at home. Today we will talk about how to drink limoncello prepared according to our recipe, and also learn how to cook delicious and unusual cocktails with it. So, the day before yesterday I put another batch of infusion (about 1 liter in pure alcohol). In a couple of days I will already boil the syrup, and dilute the drink to the desired condition. What else can I add about the production of limoncello at home? The main thing is to experiment and do not think to meet anyone’s requirements – liquor is a national treasure, like our moonshine. Have you ever seen the strict standards for the production of moonshine?
As for the ways to use this drink, here you should take into account several nuances. I constantly come across information on the Internet that, they say, the wrong drinking culture can greatly spoil the impression of a drink. In principle, this also applies to any other object of libations, even whiskey, even moonshine from women Gali. However, I would not be so categorical about “not frozen” liquor – just chilled limoncello is also good and pleases with its rich taste. Moreover, frozen drinks are not able to convey the fullness of taste and aroma. But let’s talk about everything in more detail.
How to drink limoncello – subtleties and nuances
All sources, including those from Italian colleagues, talk about the traditional use of liquor – only from the freezer and only in frozen glasses. This has a lot to do with the quality of the product. With the help of freezing, unwanted bitterness is killed in all drinks, without exception, so if limoncello was prepared with inappropriate diligence, for example, a white peel was left on the zest, then the taste of a warm drink will be very “inappropriate”. Therefore, try to do everything as it should, and then the drink will delight you under any circumstances. But back to tradition:
1. Temperature. The day before drinking the liquor, place the bottle in the freezer; Put the glasses in there too. If you used high-quality alcohol, then the drink should not turn into ice, but it’s better to play it safe and constantly monitor its condition.
2. Tempo. Italians drink limoncello measuredly, slowly, as befits Italians. The drink itself is strong, but thanks to the essential oils of lemon and low temperature, the strength is felt noticeably less. Drink the liquor in small sips, holding it in your mouth for a few seconds – this way it will heat up and convey the fullness of its taste, and also spread throughout the tongue, generously thanking all taste buds.
3. When to drink. Limoncello is a classic digestif, that is, a drink that is served after a meal – it improves digestion. However, it is also an excellent aperitif, so it can be safely served before a meal, diluted, for example, with orange juice.
4. Combination. Traditionally, liquor is not eaten, and I would not recommend this to you – it is better to eat vodka. But if you are so unbearable, then you can enjoy any fruit and chocolate, but only black, bitter – sweets will spoil the taste of the drink. As for “liquids”, limoncello tastes good with citrus juices, champagne, vermouth and, of course, in cocktails. Limoncello cocktails can be found below.
A drink with cream is also good, there is even a separate type of liquor with dairy products – cream limoncello. The liqueur complements ice cream very well: just pour it over a ball of ice cream and enjoy the unique taste of a simple dessert.

Cocktails, of course, are a little intricate, but that’s not for everybody. There are also simpler mixtures, ala limoncello-vodka-mint. In any case, do not draw conclusions after the first tasting of the drink – perhaps you did something wrong, and the thoroughbred “Italian” will fall out of favor with you because of this. In principle, now you know how to drink limoncello correctly and should not make fatal mistakes. Maintain a culture of drinking in your circle, do not turn another festival into another booze – alcohol can give not only disappointment and bitterness. The Rum Diary was with you, see you soon! *hi*
