The amazing taste of Malibu liqueur is forever remembered from the first sip. This is the hallmark of Barbados – an island in the Caribbean, whose inhabitants were the first to learn how to mix rum with coconut extract. For a couple of decades, the drink conquered the whole world. Now Malibu is drunk in its pure form, mixed with juices and cocktails are prepared based on it. We will look at all three options.
Malibu is a clear or matte white liqueur with a strength of 21%, made in Barbados by mixing white rum, pure spring water, coconut palm extract (natural or artificial) and sugar. The drink appeared in 1980. At the moment, the trademark belongs to the French company Pernod Ricard. The plant is located in Barbados, but bottling takes place in Scotland.
When adding natural coke extract, Malibu has a white color, if a synthetic flavor is used, the liquor is transparent.
In addition to traditional ingredients (rum and coconut), Malibu may contain extracts of mango, passion fruit, pineapple and banana. These species differ in the color of the bottle neck (pictured). The pineapple Malibu is dyed orange, the mango version is red, the banana version is yellow, and the passion fruit Malibu has a lilac neck. The classic coconut liqueur comes in a white bottle.
Ways to drink Malibu liqueur
1. Pure
Liquor is cooled to 8-10 ° C and served as a dessert alcohol before coffee. Malibu is drunk from liquor glasses in small sips, trying to capture the coconut aftertaste. The drink can be eaten with dessert dishes, fruits (oranges, grapes) and ice cream.
2. With other drinks
To reduce the fortress, Malibu is diluted with juices, cola, non-carbonated mineral water, tonic or coffee. This rum liqueur goes well with pineapple, orange and apple juice. The optimal proportion is 1:2 (one part of liquor to two parts of juice).
3. In cocktails
The two best options for making at home are shown in the video, these are Medusa and Rainbow cocktails.
