How to drain water from a washing machine: 5 ways

By loading the laundry into the tank, you have started the washing program. The machine started to draw water, but suddenly stopped with a full tank. What’s the matter and how to drain the water without calling the master, read below.

Why did the washing machine break down

For what reasons the washer does not wring out the laundry and does not drain the water:

  • The drain hose or its connection to the siphon (sewer) is clogged.
  • The drain hose is kinked and is preventing fluid from flowing out.
  • Incorrectly set mode. For example, the program “Wool” is carried out without spinning.
  • The drain filter is clogged with foreign objects. It can be buttons, decorative elements from clothes.
  • The impeller of the pump is blocked, so it cannot pump water. At the same time, you can hear the hum from the pump.
  • The drain pipe is clogged with debris.
  • Incorrect operation of the pressure switch. The sensor sends incorrect readings to the board about the filling of the tank.
  • Breakdown of the main module. The triac responsible for the operation of the pump failed, burned out. The module needs to be repaired or completely replaced.

Such problems may be accompanied by an error code on the display – then it will be easier for you to understand where to look for the problem.

  • “Indesit”, “Ariston” — F11, F5.
  • Bosch and Siemens F18, disassemble the case.
  • Electrolux and Zanussi (Zanussi) – EF1.
  • LG – OE.
  • Samsung – E2.
  • Beko — Н5.
  • “Whirlpool” — F03.

Before you start troubleshooting, forcibly drain the water from the system. There are five ways to do this, regardless of the CMA brand: Candy (Kandy), Ariston, Gorenje, Ardo and others.

How to properly drain water from a tank

Before starting work, turn off the washer from the network. Prepare a basin or bucket so that there is somewhere to drain the water.

Plum hose

Remove the fasteners that hold the hose close to the housing. Then:

  • Open the clamp and disconnect the end from the siphon or sewer.
  • Drop into container.
  • Wait until the water is completely out.

Sorry, but this method does not work with all models. CMA “Bosch” and “Siemens” have a special loop that prevents self-draining. To find out the features of the structure of the washer, refer to the instructions.

Drain filter

This detail is present in almost all models of Samsung, Atlant, Veko. Protects the pump from foreign objects and debris during washing. What do we have to do:

  • Remove the bottom panel or open the sunroof. Sometimes they are fastened with screws that need to be unscrewed.
  • Tilt your body back. For convenience, you can put something under the bottom.
  • Place an empty container under the filter.
  • Turn the part counterclockwise and pull it out of the seat.

Sometimes the inside of the filter becomes so clogged that it cannot be pulled out. In this case, you need to remove the bottom of the SMA, get to the part, unscrew it and clean it.

emergency hose

Behind the decorative hatch, at the bottom of the front panel, there may be a small hose (tube). If the machine stops draining water, you can open the hatch, take out the tube, open the hole and direct it into the container. True, this is not a fast process, since the tube is narrow.

Not all brands have a similar emergency tube.

manhole door

If there is not much water, do this:

  • Lean your body back and lean against the wall.
  • If the washer freezes in the middle of the program, then the door will be locked. You can open it using a thin but durable cord. Pass it between the body and the door, pull both ends at the same time and open the lock.
  • Then scoop out the water from the tank with a ladle.

It will not be possible to completely remove it, so the option is not very convenient.

Drain pipe

When the filter does not unscrew, you can dismantle the pipe, but for this you will have to disassemble the automatic machine.

  • Loosen the screws around the perimeter of the rear panel.
  • Set her aside.
  • Under the tank there is a branch pipe, attached to the pump with a clamp.
  • Substitute the container, loosen the clamp and remove the pipe, lowering the end into the basin.
  • If nothing drains, the cause is a blockage.
  • Eliminate it and restore the system.

The advantage of such a complex approach is the complete removal of water from the tank.

Check the pump impeller, often there is no drain due to its blockage. In severe cases, the pump itself burns out.

The most difficult breakdown is a malfunction of the electronic board. Then you need to open the control panel, take out the module and inspect it at the time of burning. If the triac burns out, it can be replaced and the board can be restored. But it is better to entrust the repair to a specialist, because the control module is a complex and expensive part.
