How to distinguish real honey

If you want to buy a quality product, then find out what real honey should be like. And if you find a place where natural honey will be sold, then remember it, such places are worth their weight in gold!

Consistency

It should be homogeneous, without delamination, sediment or lumps. Young honey is more liquid; in winter, as it “ages”, honey becomes thicker and crystallizes and becomes sugar-coated. If honey is liquid in winter, it is a fake.

Fluidity

The fluidity of freshly pumped honey is also determined. Dip the spoon into a glass of honey and lift it up. Real honey will last for a very long time and drain smoothly without breaking into drops. It flows onto a plate in a slide, and only then spreads. If you twist the spoon, the honey will wrap up.

Taste

Honey is not just sweet, it leaves behind a slight sore throat and bitterness on the tongue.

Smell

Honey smells like flowers and herbs, but unobtrusively. Fake honey smells like caramel (sugar) or has no smell at all.

Color

Honey comes in different shades of yellow and brown, depending on the flower from which the pollen is collected. The white color of honey indicates that the bees were fed with sugar.

If you buy honey in the spring and you were offered mustard liquid brown honey, then this is a fake – melted old honey that was not sold out in winter. Such honey is useless, because at high temperatures all the beneficial properties of honey are destroyed.

The weight

A liter of mature honey weighs 1,4 kg.

How to determine the naturalness of honey at home.

– Dissolve honey in a glass of water. Fake honey will make the water cloudy due to the admixture of flour, starch, sawdust.

– You can drop iodine into dissolved honey, if it contains starch, the water will turn blue.

– If you drop vinegar into the solution and it hisses, then there is chalk in the honey.

– Spread a layer of honey on blotting paper. If after 5 minutes the honey has not emerged from the back of the leaf, then its quality is very high.

– Dip a piece of bread into honey, if it remains solid, then you have natural honey in front of you. If the bread softens, then the honey is diluted with sugar syrup.
